Captain Montague's Bed & Breakfast

About

Captain Montague's is an award winning bed and breakfast on the shores of Lake Erie. We provide outstanding lodging and accommodations for our guests and showcase the wonders of Huron, Ohio and the Lake Erie region.

Story

Welcome to Captain Montague’s, a bed and breakfast of distinction—rest assured! We’re so glad you stopped by. Let your imagination transform the present to a gentler time past; relax, refresh, and renew both body and spirit in an atmosphere of warmth, comfort, and luxury in our stately home that dominates a shady corner in Huron, Ohio just a short walk to the Lake Erie shore.

Our home was built in the late 1870’s by the owner of the local lumberyard and master shipbuilder of the day, Mr. John Wickham; consequently, he left his legacy of beautiful woods—solid black walnut mantels and staircase, red oak and mahogany floors, and more. We are so fortunate to have these pieces of the past. You see, even though the property has seen grand times, it also has experienced very hard times.

Great Lakes captain, Charles Montague, purchased the property in 1890. He and his family—wife Sarah and children Newton and Edith-- lived in this grand house until the mid-thirties. The Montagues made their home famous for its grand parties and receptions. It has its roots in hospitality!

Mission

Provide outstanding lodging and accommodations for our guests and showcase the wonders of Huron, Ohio and the Lake Erie region.

Nancy is FABULOUS! Very affordable rates, delicious breakfast, and hot coffee. She even went as far as loaning my boyfriend a blazer when he forgot to bring his. Thank you!

Stayed at this B&B on June 13th while on business travel after finding the inn doing a Google search. Couldn't have found a better place to stay at: the home was beautifully restored and on a quiet street very close to a park on Lake Erie in Huron, OH. Nancy was a very friendly host that I got to meet while checking in. Huge benefit to this B&B in the warmer months of the year was that they have a nice sitting area AND better yet, in their nicely landscped yard they have a pool house and a swimming pool (!). Bring your water wings folks! Breakfast was a well-prepared couple of courses and was delicious. Highly recommend a visit there.

On our way to Virginia from Chicago we stopped at Captain Montague's Bed & Breakfast, 229 Center St, Huron, OH 44839. We arrived late, around 10:30 PM. Nancy, the proprietor, met us with a bright and cheery demeanor, which was very welcome after a long 5 hour drive in a new car. It was late and we were exhausted so we respectfully postponed the walk through until the next morning, but before retiring Nancy made sure to ask about our breakfast preferences. The room and bed were excellent - clean, well lit and nicely decorated; in no time we were fast asleep. In the morning, we woke up a little early so we could clean up and relax a bit before breakfast. We walked downstairs, following the aroma of fresh coffee and found a delightful fresh fruit salad on a finely set table by a grand bay window overlooking the front lawn. Around us were beautiful, authentic early 20th century furniture pieces. Nancy attended to all of our needs. She made a superb breakfast of sauteed vegetables and eggs with toast. After breakfast, she sat with us and talked about local events and some of the history of the home. During which, she introduced both her husband and her grand daughter. They made us feel like family and we will not soon forget our stay. We highly recommend Captain Montague's Bed and Breakfast and encourage any and all to visit - you will not be disappointed.

Our stay at Captain Montagues was superb. Nancy was a wonderful hostess. She gave us a tour of the home and told us the fascinating history of the home's original owners: Captain Montague and his wife Sarah. Breakfast was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed chatting with our fellow house guests. We will be back!
