Pros and cons about this place. Pros: some sites are beautiful, have waterfront views, friendly guests, a park for kids to play on, have some very nice and well kept campers and some pleasant staff on the phone nice young lady. Cons: some tent sites extremely unkempt, long grass, falling apart picnic tables, rude staff at the front desk older lady was not pleasant at all. What they said on the phone totally contradicted what she said in person. Lots of extra charges. We received no maps and no directions on where to go, was told by other campers that the maps are useless anyway. Washrooms are very dirty some outhouses were actually cleaner than the bathrooms in the building. Group site is just grass on the side of the road, not worth getting and there was zero view of anything nice. Some mobile homes and campers look like falling apart hoarder homes. This campground has a ton of potential. It just needs some new staff that are friendly and someone to maintain the property. Would I go back? Only if I had a waterfront campsite, other than that, not worth the money.
Read other reviews and wonder if I was at the same place! But I think there's huge differences between the trailer grounds near the entrance and the Beach camping area, where I was staying, in a tent. So, Beach camping. Sounded wonderful. By a beautiful lake. BUT, eerie empty. When I came on a Friday mid-May, there were three trailers. On Sunday, there was one. On Monday, my little tent was the only one on the entire grounds! The nearest trailer grounds were maybe 2km away... The campsite wasn't clean: there were plastic cutlery, old socks melted into the ground , etc - clearly it had been there forever and no one had driven by to take a look. It was an electrical site, but none of the connections were working. I walked to other sites hey, there was no one there! and used theirs. An empty bee nest under one cover! I mean, no one cares for the place, there's no proper maintenance. Oh, and last - there were NO BATHROOMS or running water! Yes, there were facilities by the entrance to the park, but that's like 5min drive. But nothing other than a porta-potty about 200m from my site. Yeah.. beautiful sunrises but still, would never return. Too bad the place isn't cared for - it's got great potential. In the meantime, I'll continue staying in provincial parks.
Pros: Great property, friendly staff, Saturday evening story telling 5*s! Cons: Two showers for >300 sites, poorly maintained, main washrooms are not cleaned regularly i.e. no soap in the dispensers for the four days we were there, toilets frequently "messy", lack of onsite supplies limited foodstuffs - some drinks, home made maple popcorn and a few choices of ice cream novelties, water must be boiled to drink yes, I realize this is a common problem for indigenous people across the country but am reviewing the campground, not the lack of federal support for this problem If you go here be prepared to "rough it" a bit. I didn't see many transient sites with water hookups and I think the majority of sites have no services.
If youre looking to camp and notice that its designated as an RV site, you are actually allowed to camp at that spot even if you dont have an RV or trailer. Note that RV or trailer sites have harder ground and would be rough to tent. But if youre willing then thats on you. Just make sure to bring some form of seperation between youre bed and the rough ground. RV sites have power and that is dependant on the site - refer to the website for more info. It's a nice, peaceful, well maintained and secure campground. This review is based on the Premium lakeview/beachside campground. Roads are packed dirt, but it is stable and clear of debri. The water on the beachside is clear of any large rocks and is pretty shallow after 20 paces out. The staff patrol regularly at day and night from my observation. No lifeguards as far as i see. There is atleast 10-15roughly feet of seperation from the neighboring camp. Camp size and borders do vary depending on different camp sites. They allow almost all forms of water-based activities such as kayaking, paddle boards, etc. refer to the website or give them a call if youre unsure. The staff are friendly and are responsive to phone calls check if their office is open. If youre unsure of a certain rule or topic, they do take the time to explain it to campers. Reservations run out fast so make sure to book atleast 3 to 4 weeks in advance. They also have a day visit scheadule with an entrance fee. Check website for prices. Do note this review is based on Cape Croker Park and not the nearby area of Cape Croker. It is also based on the premium lakeview/beachview site. Yes, it was also expensive since they do charge alot more than other campsites, but i had a great first experience especially since the cape looks great at day its a literal U chunk of land with shallow water in the middle, and at night, you can see the stars clearly together with fireflies glowing around the bushes. Literal definition of summer in my experience. Playground: Behind the main entrance office has a playground for kids with swings. Restrooms: The premium campground only has 1 washroom on the far side towards the entrance Dog-friendliness: There is dog designated campsites. If your campsite has a paw, then it is a dog friendly site.
We had never been here before and we booked online so we were not sure what to expect but we were not disappointed. This camp ground is beautiful! There is not a ton of privacy between campsites. We were able to book a waterfront site, and it was perfect. We had a full size camp site that ended at the water. This was extra perfect seeing as the camp ground had nightly fireworks on display at the beach. We were able to view the fireworks from our site. There was not a sound at night, except for the sounds of nature! The washrooms were pretty standard. There were some cob webs and flying bugs but the toilets and sinks were clean and supplies were stocked. We saw the staff in cleaning the washrooms so that was a relief during a pandemic. The water is perfectly clear, but cold as you would expect at Georgian Bay. The river bottom is lined with river rock, which is WAY better than mud! There were lots of other park amenities that we did not make use of on our one night stay. Can't wait to come back here in the future!
Great quiet camping ground. Plenty of shade to camp on hot summer nights. Beach is rocky but offers fantastic views. Bring loonies/bodywash to use the showers. There's an outdoor beach volleyball court as well
As a tourist in this stunning country, I wish all my tourist dollars went to the First Nations. Cape Croker is emblematic of what happens to virgin land when it is in the safekeeping of excellent stewards. It is clear, from a forestry perspective, that old growth forest and leaves are allowed to rest, decay, and nurture new growth. At the national park the campgrounds were paved, mowed, and contrived little parcels. This is paradise; Quiet, scenic, and serene. The photo below is my campsite.
The park is beautiful! The staff were helpful and friendly. We went on the Canada Day long weekend and there were a lot of late night partiers who were loud that we were not expecting. But it was our first time camping and it was Canada Day so we didn't yell at them to shut up until 2:00 a.m. lol. Too many screaming children for my liking so we might find an adult only campground next time. Guess we're just getting old. Lol
We stayed in the cabin for a week. The staff were really nice and the campground was kept clean. The only complaint I had were the amount of ear wigs inside the cabin. I know we are outside and bugs are to be expected but there were hundreds in our bags and suitcases!! But overall it was a really fun experience and we would go again, maybe this time with some raid!
Enjoyed our stay. No issues. Beautiful views. Photo is view from site#226. Not a single mosquito bite during our 2 night stay!!
