I've had two issues at this store, with the 2nd finally prompting me to write a review, although I should have written one after the first incident. The first was, while shopping with my 73 year old mother, we stopped at the clearance section next to the checkout. There was a bag of bird seed there with a yellow clearance sticker on it. We picked it up to purchase at the self-check out and asked a staff member to help us input the discounted price as the item scanned at full price. We were then told, rather sternly, that the clearance tag wasn't for the bird seed and accused of switching price tags. I was floored. My mother was horrified. We asked to speak with a manager but there wasn't one available so we asked one to call us. So we just left everything we were going to purchase and left the store, embarrassed and disgusted. a week later someone called, I told them what happened, they noted it and apologized. Not sure what they did internally from there to address this.nThe 2nd issue happened a year later, approx. 1 year ago. I needed to get my breaks done rather urgently. Cad tire had availability that day so I decided to go, against my better judgement. They advised I also needed to replace the rotors. I'm in no position to question this so sure, replace them. Well fast forward to a month ago, I get an out of province inspection done in AB, and was advised, although I still had plenty of brake pads left, my rotors were rusted out and warped to the point the breaks were not working properly and they needed to be replaced. This was a dealership to which I have had plenty of work done in the past on other vehicles and trust the service manager. They showed me the rotors, and they were in terrible condition. This has never happened to me before, nothing had changed how I drive my car, so how did these rotors not make it even 1 year when the breaks pads themselves were still well over 50%. It makes no sense unless the rotors sold to me were completely garbage or they were not installed correctly. Either way, there is a major problem here.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!!! I went on March 6th to get new tires put in place of my old ones. They quoted me $100 for just one tire.
This store seems incredibly disorganized. I have found the staff to be relatively friendly but unhelpful and under-trained. More than once I’ve ordered items for pick up and needed to cancel because items can’t be located or are missing. Frustrating to deal with so I will be shopping elsewhere when possible.
I needed new wiper blades and someone to put them on.....which they could do apparently. Lovely sales rep helped me choose a product, someone else checked me in and told me to go to the middle garage door. I went and waited for 10/12 minutes. Nothing, no doors open, no signage of any kind, no staff around to ask. I go back inside to make sure I was at the correct door; I was. Sales rep told me ' oh there's a sensor that will open the door when you are close enough'. I didn't know that and there were no signs to tell me that. I go back and try again, edging closer to the door.....still nothing. I was within 6 inches of the door , nothing. By now I've wasted too much time. I returned the items, went to NAPA, got my blades $20 cheaper and installed free. Except for the person who helped me find the blades all I encountered was indifference and apathy. The problem could have been solved with a call to the garage to open the door. I will solve the problem by never bothering with Canadian Tire again.
Do not bring your vehicle here, was told over text twice that I had a 8am appointment, got there at 7:50am to hand over my keys and was told they don’t do appointments it’s based on a first come first serve, so why have the option to book appointments online? The person at the desk let me know it would be around a hour to a hour and a half wait.nAll I needed done was my tires put on the rims, studs added and put on my vehicle. I did add that I wanted someone to LOOK at my brakes as I had trouble with them a week prior - I didn’t want them fixed or replaced just looked at.nMy vehicle wasn’t brought inside till some time after 9am, I didn’t leave the shop till 1pm..nNow I don’t know much about vehicles but it shouldn’t take that long to change over 4 tires.nnWhen I received my invoice it came to over $300, I asked why and was told because I wanted someone to look at my brakes it cost more, this was never explained to me once from booking the appointment to me handing over my keys, isn’t that something you should let your customers know before you charge them for it? A lot of people don’t know about vehicles/how much it costs.nnThen when I told them I didn’t know I would be charged for someone to just LOOK at my brakes the person serving me said “well we don’t usually have to explain that it costs money because people don't assume that the technician is gonna work for free” excuse me?? I never once expected anyone to work for free but I do expect the people servicing my vehicle to let me know how much something is gonna cost before they do it!nnIt felt like to me, because I was a younger woman who didn’t know much about vehicles that they talked down to me and made me feel stupid.nWill definitely not be going back here again and don’t recommend anyone else to, you can find better pricing and customer service elsewhere in St. John’s.
