I was visiting YK and was recommended to visit here. Had the spicy seaweed and kelp salad, fried beef rolls, stir fry elk, and the twice cooked pork. Everything was not bad considering that it's Yellowknife, though the pork was a tad too salty. The beef roll was also pretty good except that the sauce was too sweet and overpowered the other flavors the bites without the sauce/with less sauce were delicious. Waitress was really nice and friendly.
A decent breakfast menu, good at taste. Location is nice in Downtown, Yellowknife within the hotel Nova Inn's third floor, the staff is friendly and approachable. ******Updated after Lunch******* We also dined in for lunch today. The lunch was absolutely delicious and not that expensive as the breakfast. The setup and ambiance is really good and feels like home. The portion for each meal is huge and can be enjoyed by two or more people. We had ordered the barbecue duck, it's a must have, I highly recommend that to all duck lovers. It was well cooked. The chicken egg fried rice, kimchi fried rice and spicy chicken fries are definitely worth trying.. we loved it. Only one drawback is that the food was served one at a time .. we were expecting all at once but that was not so. Still I had an amazing experience for lunch. Will definitely and highly recommend this restaurant for lunch/dinner/breakfast. ******Updated after Dinner Takeaway******* After having lunch as the taste was absolutely delicious we opted to have a take away for dinner as well. We ordered the egg chicken fried rice with extra chicken and wanted two take away boxes. The lady was extremely helpful and understanding so she divided the food in two boxes with the required cutleries. I really appreciate her warmth and friendly gesture.. I wish I could give some more ratings than 5.
What a wonderful surprise to have authentic Chinese food in Yellowknife. My boss and I really enjoyed their fried onion cakes, spicy seaweed & kelp salad, and duck fried rice. We washed our meals down with some fruity bubble teas. Most importantly, the personalised service we received was like returning home from being away and having your mom caring for your every need. I highly recommend Cai's Kitchen for those who would like a very nice home cooked meal in a restaurant setting. Lastly, I found the hotel lobby exciting where the restaurant is located because it incorporates the local bedrock as part of its interior room decor and the geologist in me really thinks that's cool!
Very disappointed. It was really busy when we arrived. We waited but no problem as we were not in a rush. The waitress/owner asked us to wait longer because her only cook was overwhelmed and needed time to complete the backlogged orders, including takeout orders, first, so did we. Some dishes were rushed. Like the pan fried dumplings see attached photo were completely deep fried and burnt but was still served to us. I understand it’s not easy to run a Chinese restaurant in a tourist city but I don’t know what else to say.
First of all, the server is very friendly and helpful. Restaurant isn't much, with dated minimalist decore; located on third floor of the Nova Hotel. For food, we ordered the onion pancakes So good, and we had the spicy seaweed salad good, duck fried rice Delicious, and the Hainanese chicken ok, but didn't really like it. Next time we will try the lemon chicken. Had bubble tea to drink, it was excellent. I think this place has potential to be a great Restaurant, and probably the only authentic Chinese food in Yellowknife. Definitely worth a try; I will be back next time I'm in town.
Great Chinese food in Yellowknife. They sometimes got Elk and Bison. You can call in to check before you go.
Went to Cai’s kitchen for the first time. Staff was kind and asked if it was our first time. They went through the menu and explained the size and heat of the items. Highly recommend the kimchi fried rice!
Amazing place in Yellowknife to have Chinese food. Being from Toronto, I have had Chinese food from the likes of Mandarin, but I can clearly say one of the best places to have Chinese food, if not the best, in Yellowknife. The owner and management is super-friendly from early morning breakfast serving to dinner at night. My only disappointment was I tried the restaurant on the second last day of my trip. The atmosphere is really felt like home and was served with smile. Would definitely recommend anyone who wishes to have good Chinese food with a smiling service! Dietary restrictions: We requested no pork and beef and they totally adhered to it, even though the menu stated food with these items. So that was a really nice touch from them.
Sour fish great for cold winter in Yellowknife. Good personal service and always ask their recommendations to suit your family taste. BBQ Duck was good for Chinese dinner while in YK. Came with a group of 8 persons. Local tour guide will recommend since they use local white fish.
Food delicious! Hostess/Cook, Luna, was so gracious and friendly... we were only in Yellowknife two days and we had coffee here every morning - and the best omelets we honestly have ever had! We had dinner too - absolutely amazing dishes served hot both temp and spice! and no one left unsatisfied. The place is really down home as she has lovely artisitic creations on the walls by her daughter. Can't wait to visit again! Vegetarian options: very accomodating Kid-friendliness: Yes!
