Café Olimpico

Best latte in Montreal. It's always full of locals chatting, reading and working. It's got a great outdoor patio with benches to sit and talk in summer. It's cash-only and has a TV screen (usually quietly) showing soccer matches. It's our Mile End go-to coffee place and consistently delivers the best coffee in town.

Their lattes can be awful depending on the barista. I sometimes walk by but if I see X or Y behind the counter I just keep on walking since i know I'll dump the latte after one sip. The service is below average. The beans they sell aren't fresh and are not sealed . They never mention the roasting date to you. Good roasters always mark the date of roasting -and most roast their own coffee- their coffee beans. You can find plenty of good roasters and cafes in Montreal. The seating is nice. Parking is difficult -unless late at night-.

For espresso this place is great and cheap, same goes for the cannoli. Would avoid any milk-based espresso drinks like lattes and cappuccinos however, as instead of delicately steaming the milk for each beverage individually, they simply have a huge pitcher of foamy milk that they pour into every drink. Considering the premium your paying for some foamy milk I don't think they are worth it. A lot of seating, fast wifi, long opening hours and nice, busy atmosphere.

One of the best coffees in Montreal. Expect a line-up during the busy hours (depending the season) almost every day; early in the morning (rush hour), around noon and all the evening. The only point to improve for them is maybe to clean the washrooms regularly , considering the high traffic!

Café Olimpico is my favourite place in Montreal. That being said, I honestly think is a great way to know the real Mile End life. Go there and you will find all kinds of people doing all kinds of plans (working, studying, sharing a coffee). Coffee is great and food, though limited in options, it is very good and fresh. Very good quality/price ratio.
