Order now and pick them up in April and May at one of three farmer's markets or our headquarters. Annuals $5 each, Perennials $5.50. Send us a list via email at [email protected].

SWEET PEPPERS

Ace (hybrid) – Extra early, three-lobed pepper, favourite in our garden in 2011 for productivity & flavour, green to red, 55 days

Lipstick – Sheppard-type, cone-shaped pepper with superb flavour, thick & juicy, 53 days to green, 73 red

Bright Star (hybrid) – Blocky 3-4", crisp, bright fruits with sweet flavour, green to orange, 73 days

HOT PEPPERS:

Ring-O-Fire Cayenne – Produces many bright red, long, thin, very hot peppers, ideal for cooking & drying for chili powder

Early Jalapeño – Blunt-shaped peppers mature early changing from dark green to red, medium heat, use in salsas & stir fries

Hungarian Hot Wax – Abundant yields of medium hot, tapering fruits, ideal for pickling, roasting & frying, yellow to red

Chinese Five Colour – Fiery hot peppers turn a rainbow of colours, from purple, through to cream, yellow, orange & red

TOMATOES: Recommendation: For container planting, choose shorter/ more compact, determinate varieties

SLICING TOMATOES:

Big Beef (hybrid) – Excellent flavour, large, smooth red fruits, disease resistant, mid season, indeterminate

Black Sea Man (heirloom) – Medium-sized, brownish-red fruits, delicious rich flavour, early to mid season, determinate

Brandywine, Red (heirloom) – Large beefsteak-type tomato, juicy with mild flavour, indeterminate, mid to late season, potato-leaf foliage

Cherokee Purple (heirloom) – Dusty rose to chestnut colour with a sweet, smoky flavour, heavy crops of good size fruits, late season, indeterminate

Defiant (hybrid) – Mid-size red slicer with great taste, highly productive plants have high and moderate resistance to late & early blight respectively, mid season, determinate

Earl of Edgecombe (heirloom) – Lovely 3-inch round, mango-coloured fruits, meaty with fruity flavour, indeterminate

Green Zebra (heirloom) – Tangy, green fruits with dark stripes, pick when fruit has a yellowish hue, mid season, indeterminate

Old German (heirloom) – Mennonite variety, a favourite for its sweet flavoured large golden-yellow fruits, mid to late season, indeterminate

Black Krim (heirloom) – Dark, red-purple skin & flesh with lovely full flavour, medium to large fruits, mid to late season, indeterminate

PLUM/PASTE TOMATOES:

Black Plum (heirloom) – Mid-season, oval 2" fruits with dark colour & rich flavour, great for sauces & salads, indeterminate

Roma – Plum tomato with great disease resistance, heavy yields of thick-walled fruit with deep red color & mild flavour, widely used for canning and pastes, mid to late season, determinate

CHERRY TOMATOES:

Black Cherry (heirloom) – Dark purple fruits, sweet, rich flavour, very productive & early, indeterminate

Gold Nugget – Sweet-tasting, open-pollinated, 1" yellow cherry tomatoes, early season, determinate

Peacevine – Delicious red cherry tomatoes borne in large clusters on prolific plants, very high in vitamin C

Sun Sugar (hybrid) – Golden fruits with unparalleled sweetness & flavour, higher in Vitamin A than red types, early & indeterminate

Yellow Pear (heirloom) – Pear-shaped, sweet yellow fruits, low in acid, very productive, mid season variety, indeterminate

ONIONS:

Cabernet (hybrid) – Early red storage onion, glossy skin & beautiful red interior rings, 105 days

Cortland (hybrid) – Superior yellow onion, thick copper skins & fine neck, good storage variety, 105 days

Leeks Hannibal – Dark green leaves are produced on white stems with a mild onion flavor.

Cucumber

Marketmore Slicing Cucumber – Standard slicing cucumber with dark green 8" fruits, productive & disease tolerant

Sumter Pickling Cucumber – Firm, tasty pickles are good for fresh eating or pickling

Kale

Kale, Dinosaur – Narrow, bumpy, tender leaves, variety dates back to the 18th century
Kale, Curly Blue – Standard curly kale, compact two-foot plants are very hardy. 30 days to baby leaf, 50 days to full size

Lettuce

Lettuce Mix – Purchase a mix of Tari, New Red Fire and Red Salad Bowl all in one pot
Romaine Jericho Lettuce – Full flavoured, tall heads, bolt resistant for summer production
Butterhead Optima Lettuce – Soft, thick, butter-textured leaves form large frame & dense head with long shelf life

Arugula – Spicy, cool weather green lends a rich taste to salads

Celery, Utah – Good home garden variety, tall, dark green stalks

Chard, Ruby Red – Crumpled leaves with crimson-red stalks & veins, prolific producer

Fennel, Finale – Extremely vigorous plants produce large, firm bulbs with crisp, juicy texture & pleasant flavour. Excellent bolt resistance. 80 days.

Pak Choy (Prize Choy) – Uniform, medium-thick white stems with mild flavour. Prefers cool weather, but slow to bolt in heat. Best for early spring or fall planting. 50 days.

Spinach, Regiment – Giant leaf type that packs on weight, semi-savoyed (wrinkled) leaves with medium green finish. Bolt resistant. 37 Days.

Squash, Waltham Butternut – Four to five pound fruits with smooth, easy to peel tan skin & orange flesh, keeps into winter if cured

Tomatillo – A staple in Mexican foods, harvest when husk loosens & fruit turns pale yellow

Zucchini, Midnight Lightning – Improved variety, sturdy plants yield extra long, slender zucchinis, stems have few spines, good disease resistance

HERBS

Basil

Genovese – Standard pesto basil, heavy yields of glossy leaves

Lime – Distinct lime flavour & scent, vigorous, bushy plant, try it with fish, in dressings or in Asian dishes

Red/Dark Opal – Deep purple leaves & stems, lilac flowers, excellent as a garnish, in salads or for adding to basil vinegars

Siam Queen Thai – Anise flavoured, used in a wide range of Thai, Vietnamese & other cuisines

Chives (P) – Adds mild onion flavour to salads, meats & soups, edible purple flowers

Chives, Garlic (P) – Delicate garlic flavour, edible white flowers

Cilantro – Becoming one of the most popular fresh herbs, great in Mexican & Asian food, easy to grow & tolerates cool weather

Dill, Hera – Essential pickling herb, edible seeds & greens flavour many foods; improved slow-bolting variety

Lavender, Munstead (P) – Best lavender for winter hardiness, compact, bushy habit

Nasturtium, Empress of India – Dark foliage & red flowers, blooms have a mildly spicy flavour, peppery tasting foliage

Pansy, Mulberry Shades – Rich rust & purple shades with yellow centres, tolerates hot & cold weather better than other pansies

ORNAMENTAL FLOWERS

Marigold, French – Double gold, yellow & red blossoms, insect-repelling properties

FRUIT

Ground Cherry – aka Cape Gooseberry, old-fashioned tomato family member, ½- ¾" sweet golden berries in papery
husks, prolific plants, can eat fruits raw, or make into preserves and desserts.

Rhubarb, Victoria (P) – Very fast growing, green-stemmed variety, produces thick, tart pie & crispable stems

Strawberry, Alpine (P) – Tangy berries taste like wild strawberries but are larger, compact & runnerless plants, everbearing

Strawberry, Temptation (P) – Compact with few runners, great in hanging baskets, 1½" berries, larger than Alpine, everbearing
