Important info for car campers!! If you want to book an unserviced site/ tent site be aware that those sites are only walk-in!! You can’t park on the tent sites because they’re higher up and only reachable with the stairs. If you can choose site 9 or the other sites around the gazebo. They are unserviced and passable by car. The campground itself is really great. It’s close to a dense rainforest so it can be really wet but that’s just the region. The washroom building is quite warm and clean and the showers are included, so take the longest hot shower you can beware of spiders. We also booked laundry service. The machines are in the little shed next to the big sign. Both washer and dryer are clean and odor free. There’s no detergent provided but maybe ask for that. You can hang out in the shed while waiting for the laundry to finish, the wi-fi’s best there, it’s somewhat warm and there’s even some books in the corner. The machines don’t take too long. The campsite caretaker who we had the pleasure with was super nice and helpful. The other guests were quiet and polite, there are no JBL box on blast and drinking all night people here. Port McNeill is in walking distance where you can get groceries or have a snack or drink or take the ferry to a close-by island. Can recommend!!!
You get what you pay for. I think the village has taken over running it. No laundry when we stayed a couple days ago. The showers were clean enough not the greatest. There was no soap at the sinks and while the attendant said they would be around in the AM and then again in the PM we only know they were there once a toilet overflowed. This is a great spot to eBike over to Malcolm Island Sointula or Alert Bay. The ferry is right down the road, maybe a two minute bike ride and this new little diesel electric hybrid ferry doesn’t charge for bicycles. For what we wanted to do this location worked well for us. The facilities themselves look like they are in the program of being worked on. The power, water, sewers hook ups were all brand new.
The people who run this campground are amazing. They are extremely welcoming and will go above and beyond to help the people staying at the campground. Very helpful even to things non-campground related! -$15/night for tent sites which have electricity & water -You get GOOD wifi right from your tent! -Great weekly & monthly rates -Good lighting in bathroom, bench & hooks in shower area -Hot showers with NO TIME LIMIT -Sheltered picnic table -PERFECT location. 5 minute walk to grocery store & town if you take the trail, 8 min walk if you take the road. Right by ferry terminal too! -Laundry is by donation -There is a cute cat that runs around -Gravel road leading to the campground is in good condition -Quiet almost all the time The sites are pretty close together, so if you want more of a “camping experience”, go to Nimpkish or Marble River Recreational Site both a 30 min drive away, free, but no amenities or cell service. Port McNeill is awesome and worth a stop!
Inexpensive. Mostly serviced sites. And has showers, place to wash dishes, washrooms. Can walk into town easily through trail. Rustic features.
We stopped at this campsite for lunch on our road trip to Port Hardy in July 2019. It was located in a wooded area a few kilometres from Port McNeill town and about 40 km from our final destination, Port Hardy. There was a nice shed with cement benches and table, as well as a cast iron pot with a grill which we used to cook up a meal. There were decent washrooms and running water for cleaning up. We enjoyed a pleasant couple of hours before heading to Port Hardy.
Great little campground walking distance to town shopping. Unfortunately may be closing at year end 2021, check with town to see if they have come up with something to open this place again in 2022
Cute small campground. Other campers were quiet and respectful. Toilet facilities were a bit run down, but the water was hot and the place didn't smell bad. Didn't like that there were lamp posts that illuminated the site all night.
Lovely quiet campground in the trees. Not too busy. The ocean is just down the driveway and across the road. Management answered the phone unlike the other two campgrounds nearby and welcomed us in at 9pm. Flush toilets and free hot showers. Tent site was only 15$. Great value. Will stay again.
Decided to stay there before heading out to Sointula and Alert Bay, and then to Cape Scott. Not only was the location prime just outside of town, they had great tenting spots in the trees, a wheel barrow full of firewood for $5 this was good wood and excellent washroom with FREE hot showers! everywhere else was $1/min. This place is great, and Doug and Debbie were really friendly.
Doug was great... Treated like a King... Sites were clean... Had awesome shower facilities and a wash tub for dishes... Close to town was convenient... Beer store...Lol... Will be back... I'm from Alert Bay... Work out of Parksville...
