Story

The family owned Breakers on the Lake is in an ideal location on the shoreline of Lake Ontario on the east side of Cobourg's Victoria Beach. While you're here, enjoy our sandy beach available exclusively to our guests. Shaded lawns border the beach while gentle surf rolls in and gently changing hues of the lake make a picture postcard.

We can offer a number of choices for your comfort; we can accommodate your needs, and provide you with a comfortable getaway while you're with us.

A number of options await you....all non-smoking, from ten spacious motel rooms, three 2-bedroom housekeeping units and a separate two storey cottage.

We are open every day of the year - an ideal destination for a business trip, weekend getaway or longer vacation.
Reservations are recommended, but not always necessary.

Overall good stay. 5/5 for location, view and grounds. 4/5 for room size, bathroom and equipment. 3/5 for very dated decor, rather thin walls and adequate welcome. 2/5 for having to smell cigarette smoke from surrounding balconies and patios. I would recommend if it was not for the last point. However, I can understand that people would appreciate the freedom to smoke on site.

This old low key motel sits right next to the beach of Lake Ontario and quietly adorns a very peaceful and relaxing air, something akin to cottage atmosphere. It was windy the evening we arrived so the lake 'breakers' were really active and added to the dreamlike quality of the setting. It has a remote feeling without being remote. I loved it from the minute we arrived. The beds are extremely comfortable, the rooms clean and the staff friendly. Would love to spend a week here but its' antiquity may not be for everyone.

Family owned and operated business with a beachfront property that was private for their guests.   They have  bbq and fire pit rentals and movies to rent as if you were going back in time.     The room itself is a no thrills room but very clean and spacious but don't forget to bring your own toiletries as they only give you soap no shampoos or conditioners but towels a plenty.  Each room comes with a small kitchenette with plates, cutlery, microwave, coffee machine, sink, etc and some come with a stove if you plan on cooking while you're there if you don't want to bbq or go into the town.  If you have a dog this place is pet friendly with some rooms designated for your family pets with plenty of walking trails near by.  Really nice location feels like going back in time with a modernized touch.  Will definitely go back

This is a hidden gem. The prices are quite reasonable. The rooms are clean and spacious. I have stayed here three times once as a kid, and the last two summers in the cottage/"housekeeping" room 12. These are fully equipped, beautiful cottages that honestly feel like modest homes. The real gem though is the property - a spacious lawn, beautiful garden, and private dog-friendly beach. Staying here means you never have to worry about the crowds at the beach directly next door. My dog absolutely loves it. She started crying when we pulled up, too excited to get out and play on the beach. The only drawback is that people who know about it tend to rebook as they leave, making it hard to get a reservation. I recommend getting on the wait list ASAP!

The very best resort I’ve stayed at. Friendly. Welcoming. Clean. Quiet. Beautiful views of the lake. Comfortable rooms with gas fireplaces.

Beautiful getaway on the beach. Only an hour away from Toronto. The rooms are very clean, and they allow pets in main floor rooms! If you want to bring your own food there is a kitchenette with bar fridge, microwave, dishes, cutlery and sink. Very friendly staff.

We had spent the day on the road on what would be a long journey from Ontario to Nova Scotia. With a preteen, 2 toddlers, a dog and a cat in tow, Breakers was our first stop for the night. They were extremely accommodating to our last minute reservation. We arrived to a beautiful view, spacious cabins, and play area for the kids. Our last night in Ontario was truly special. I highly recommend to anyone needing a weekend getaway or last minute resting place. I hope to visit again one day!
