I left a glowing review last time I posted and my visit today was very nearly the same experience. However, parts of the pub are now looking a little tired and in need of a freshen up by the Hungry Horse team. The upholstery in the booths is worn out, particularly the bench seats... It is curious why there is a price difference on Hungry Horse menus between different pubs... I can see no reason for this. The demographics of this area of Derbyshire is similar to that in Swadlincote, so why is The Tall Chimney a cheaper menu... Anyway, we like the Bonnie Prince and will keep coming when heading out towards Derby instead if Burton or Leicester .
My husband and I went into this pub to have some food as we had just got married and wanted a meal out, as I stood by the bar the place was almost empty so I don't expect to wait long to get served. I stood there for almost 10 mins while the staff cleaned some tables and looked at me standing at the bar but still no one acknowledged me!! So I was just about to walk out when a group of young men walked in.. The lady that was cleaning the tables then walked up to the bar and served them when I had been waiting patiently for quite a while by then!! So when I did eventually get her attention I wasn't very happy and I explained that I had Been waiting for ages and had been ignored by a few of the staff and that I was just about to leave.. So she said a a quick sorry that she certainly didn't mean then took our order for meals and drinks.. Considering the pub as practically empty we had to wait 30 mins for food then my husbands steak came out with cold chips on it... Then I waited 7 minutes for my meal to come out that wasn't warm either!! So what a disappointment so then I wanted to use the ladies... So I went into the toilets to find not one lock on the 3 toilets and well poo all over the one toiletI'm putting this very nicely obviously they hadn't been checked in a while... My husband said the mens wasn't much better either.. So there u go our trip out for a meal for 2 having driven 40 mins to get there was well all I can describe as absolutely disgusting and so very disappointing.. Please save your money and go elsewhere and we lost almost £50 that day!!
