BCS is Michigan's only ACCS accredited K-12 private classical Christian school, centrally-located in Oakland county on Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Hills.
Bloomfield Christian School had its inception in 1993 as Christian Leadership Academy as five mothers met to pray for God’s leading in starting a Christian school. That first year and a half was spent in prayer and preparation as schools were visited from Virginia to Texas to Idaho.
In September of 1994, Christian Leadership Academy opened its doors to eight students. By the end of the year, there were thirteen students in five different grades. In 1996 CLA began to add the secondary program and graduated its first class in 2000.
In 2013 the school moved to its current facility on Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Hills. Subsequently, the name was changed to Bloomfield Christian School in January 2015.
BCS strives to operate as a servant to the family under the assumption that the education of young people is the responsibility of parents and the immediate family rather than that of the State. BCS provides a Biblical-based curriculum and teaches subjects as parts of an integrated whole, with the Scriptures at the center.
In conjunction with the biblical emphasis, BCS follows a classical and Christian educational model as described in the following books and articles: The Lost Tools of Learning, by Dorothy Sayers; Repairing The Ruins, edited by Doug Wilson; The Seven Laws of Teaching, by John Gregory; and Recovering The Lost Tools of Learning, by Doug Wilson. Please view our list of Resources on classical and Christian education as well as the Video link to learn more.
Although academics have always been the main emphasis at BCS, an extramural sports program was started in 2001 and continues to grow. CLA now supports Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Track, and Tennis teams as well as an active Student Council and Spirit/Pep Club.
The mission of Bloomfield Christian School is to teach children Biblical truths and classical academics from a Christian worldview so they may serve as bold and obedient ambassadors for Jesus Christ.
Students participate in various competitions and performances annually such as the Math Olympics, National Latin Exam, ACSI Spelling Bee, sixth grade Shakespearean play, Solo & Ensemble, and in-house Speech Meet. Beginning in kindergarten, students are trained in public speaking, culminating in a final capstone–their senior thesis defense. Field trips also enhance the curriculum, everything from a week at Wolverine Science Camp, local excursions to the Detroit Institute of Art and Greenfield Village, a day with the Bard at Stratford Festival of Canada, and an extensive senior trip to Europe. Secondary students also have protocol, training in elegance and etiquette to prepare them for a special formal evening of dining and entertainment called Cotillion.
