Story

Oakland Early College (OEC) is a “hybrid” school combining the best elements of high school and college. OEC students attend school on Oakland Community College’s Orchard Ridge campus, and engage in an exciting college-preparatory curriculum taught by teachers from award-winning West Bloomfield School District. Dual enrollment is a central component of every student's educational experience, with students participating in an integrated sequence of high school and college courses. OEC students graduate with their high school diplomas, innovative educational and professional experiences in a small school environment, and up to 60 transferable college credits towards their undergraduate degree and/or an Associate Degree from Oakland Community College.

Oakland Early College is an amazing place for academically driven students to succeed! Small class sizes, independence, and an extremely supportive staff make for an excellent environment. You can also get quite a few free college credits. I am in my third year and at the end of this term, I will have 25 college credits.

Oakland Early College is great for students who are passionate about their education. The programme also gives high school students a taste of college life, making OEC graduates far more prepared than students at other schools to enter the real world. I enjoyed my time at the school and I highly recommend that you consider sending your student here too!

My son was fortunate enough to enter for 9th grade and began taking college classes his first year of high school! As Denise M. stated, it is an excellent school--the head of school is 'on-task' and actively involved in the 'whole student' and the teachers and staff provide full academic support for the enrichment of student learning. My son graduated with over 80 college credits (Associate's degree) and was accepted to 4 of the 5 schools he applied to and received full rides from three of those schools. He attends a well-known research university; his professors credit his solid academic foundation and engaging leadership presence to his high school: OAKLAND EARLY COLLEGE!

Wonderful school. My younger brother attends. Principal is very involved, as many of the staff are as well. He's completed about two college courses, and is taking 2-3 right now. He's only 15yrs. The program will have your child add an extra year, but graduate with an Associates Degree "free". So, the first two years of college for a student will be done and over with by the time they're 18, 19 years old. Win Win! Especially with college being as costly as it is now.
