Big Lagoon County Park is one of many beautiful beaches along this coast. What makes this beach nice is that a person can drive right next to it and park. There is a fee, but here is no long walk; you can walk right onto the sand. And parts of it have sand like very small beads. We watch sunsets here 2 nights.
Absolutely stunning beach. I had a great time walking down it seeing all the beautiful rocks and shells and watching the waves roll in. It was so awesome getting to watch such an amazing sunset on the beach. There were barely any other people there also so it was very peaceful and quiet other than the beautiful sounds of nature.
The Big Lagoon County Park is a gorgeous state park in the middle of Trinidad, Humboldt county. The park is really well maintained. There is a $5 dollar fee that should be paid to enter in the park. There are plenty of parking available and clean restrooms. The beach is really beautiful, but be aware the the sea there is too strong and dangerous for swimming. On the other hand, the lagoon is very calm and full of fishes. It is great place for fishing or doing water activities. In addition to that, the whole beach and lagoon is surrounded by a scenic forest. I highly recommend this place for everyone that loves outdoor and nature.
Well kept campgrounds and beautiful scenery! The campsites are right on the lagoon and a short walk away from Agate Beach, which I had loads of fun beachcombing. They also have kayak rentals right in the parking lot, which I didn't do this time but definitely will when I can manage to come back. It's not the place to go if you want hot sun and ocean swims, but if you enjoy misty morning walks and old growth pine forest then this is definitely a must visit.
I have been fortunate enough to go kayaking the last two weeks at Big Lagoon County Park. The water is smooth, views are nice, especially in foggy skies. Paddle up river to the end where a fallen tree blocks further passage. Many colorful birds, jumping fish, possibly elk viewing along the banks of the River.
Beautiful beaches where you can sometimes watch whales rolling around close to shore, presumably while they loosen barnacles from their backs. Lovely beaches for walking, picnics, and sandcastles, but swimming is discouraged due to sneaker waves and undertow.
Great place to kayak and to visit the big lagoon but this County campground would be my second or maybe third choice for staying at. The area is more open to view to each campsite so not as much privacy. The fees are less so campers are usually looking for price and not atmosphere. It still has great access to the lagoon and the views are spectacular along with the distant sound of the ocean breakers on the other side of the land spit.
Great place to find agates and driftwood. Amazing sunsets.
This area has many beautiful roadside trails and nearly right on the beach. If you're fortunate, you may find some agates, but be careful of the dangerous rip tide sorry no photo. There is a $5 day use fee and spacious bathrooms stocked with tp. These photos are from a parallel road on the way to the park less than a mile away.
The boat launch, picnic tables, agates, snowy plovers, brown pelicans, big waves, plants such as beach prim rose, searock, seaweed, and interesting drift wood makes this a beautiful place to go.
