nice campsite in beautiful forest. the drive in from the north goes through a spectacular forest of giants. I've never seen anything like it. pull over in front of a giant tree wider than your car, and take in the sounds and smells of 1500 yr old trees.

One of our favorite campsites on the coast. It is just serene.

Not happy camper!!! We reserved two nights camping and when we got there they refused to honor the reservation and sent us away. They claimed we reserved a handicapped campsite however nowhere on our reservation does is say anything about a handicapped campsite. Then they charged us for the camping to boot. I think they are incompetent!!

Three years ago my family and I discovered the Prairie Creek Campgrounds and we have stayed there for the past 3 Summers. This last Summer we actually had some family members join us and were excited to show them the beauty of the Redwoods. Unfortunately, our trip this Summer was significantly tarnished by Prairie Creek Law Enforcement, Officer Arwen. Normally our family greatly appreciates the watchful eye and monitoring of a forest ranger, however, Arwen was not only extremely disrespectful but clearly abused the authority she had every time she drove by our site. We closely follow and respect park rules and regulations but it seemed as though we couldn't do anything correctly. We finally expressed our feelings to Arwen and asked her to stop harassing us at which point we never saw her again. We did end up having a fun trip but will, most likely, not be returning to this campground in the future; sadly this is the case for my extended family as well. I have never written a negative review before but due to the fact that this was a special event that cost our family a lot of time and money I felt that it was necessary. In addition, I truly hope this message reaches someone who might be able to keep this from happening to another family.

I would have rated 5 star if the squirrels hadn't ruined my food and non-food items which were kept in the locked bearbox. I talked to the rangers and found out they were fully aware of this issue. They told me the squirrels "are really good at doing this". I wished they had warned me not to keep anything in the bearbox unless I don't mind they would be bitten and pooped on by squirrels at the moment I checked in. Other than the squirrel-in-the-bearbox problem, this is a great campground. Large flat pad for tents. The sites are divided by thick shrubs and fern which provide nice privacy. In addition to those, the location provides easy access to great trails nearby. Ooh, I almost forgot to mention the Elks are frequents to this area, too.
