Story

It only takes one visit to our classic diner to understand why Mio locals and tourists alike always put AuSable River Restaurant high on their list of favorite eateries. Our food is great, our staff is warm and welcoming, and our prices are just right. We serve up a wide selection of made-from-scratch home and country-style dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, from eggs and pancakes to giant burgers and Monte Cristo sandwiches. The only thing we're prouder of than the dishes we serve is the support we get each day from our community. We welcome guests in with a smile and treat them to a home-cooked meal just like Grandma used to make -- always with a side of Northern hospitality!

I travel for business, and one of the tips I've learned when checking out local restaurants is go where the locals go. If a spot has lots of local traffic, it's probably a decent spot. I wish I'd remembered that principle when dropping in to the Au Sable restaurant. I went early during the dinner hour on a Wednesday (5:20) and was one of three people in the place. The meal was decent, though it's hard to mess up fried shrimp and fries. But when I went for breakfast the next morning at 8:00, I was the only party in the place, and I quickly found out why. The medium eggs I ordered were barely cooked, and the bacon didn't even make it to "limp" - "half raw" would have been a better descriptor. Even when I sent it back, asking for it to be cooked crisp, it was returned just warm, and still uncooked. I finally gave up. The hash browns were all right, but I could have gotten crisp hash browns across the street at McDonald's.

We just had breakfast there this morning and it was great. Our server (Angie) was friendly and quick. Made sure we were taken care of and that our food was to our liking. We love this place.

Food was not very good and expensive for the quality. Not a lot of people in the restaurant but took awhile for food. I will stick to the Paddle Inn.

Our experience was very disappointing. First the kitchen was very noisy. Dishes were dropped many times. We had a group of 10. 1 person got a burger to be cooked medium. It came medium rare. Another ordered a bacon burger. There was 1 slice of bacon on it. They charge $1 extra for lettuce and tomato!!!! It's a condiment!!! Really???? The charge for fries @ $3 and $4 for onion rings is ridiculous for the amount that you receive!!!!! We all had separate checks. For 3 of us, the bill was $36 for 3 burgers, 1 with fries, another with onion rings and 3 sodas!!! It would have been cheaper to go across the street to McDonald's and got more food!!!

Clean, fresh food (salad bar, burger and etc). Clean restrooms, easy in, easy out. Polite staff.
