Au Papier Japonais

About

Au Papier japonais offers more than 800 different kinds of Japanese papers, as well as many products made from paper such as notebooks, journals, and greeting cards. A wide range of creative opportunities is available through our course program.

Story

What is Washi?
Handmade Japanese papers are called washi, and this word has gradually replaced the more common but inaccurate term, “rice paper” which whenever said by an unsuspecting client usually provokes a lengthy explanation! And that’s because, the remarkable qualities of washi come not from rice, but from “kozo” — the mulberry fibres that are the heart of and soul of washi. It is kozo that give washi its diversity of texture, finish and colour, its delicacy and transluscence, but exceptional strength and responsiveness to impression, and its low acidity which insures a lasting image.

Always a delight! You can see there is a lot of care and love that goes into everything.
Lovely shop! Had very good choice of items for crafting or artist, japanese nature most of them. Felt cozy and staff was very nice
Beautiful shop. Passionate owners will take a lot of time for you. Absolutely lovely paper and various products. It's definitely a special place.
The paper in here is beautiful. They sell these bags of scraps for 5-10 dollars and they are wonderful. Paper with these intricate designs, birds, flowers, stars, plantlife. So beautiful, and sometimes accessorized with gold and silver trimmings.
Love the selection of papers, the owner is friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are reasonable for stunning paper products. This is what I made from my purchases.
A beautiful little shop in Montreal. They had a large selection of vibrant Japanese papers, craft supplies, brushes & reading material on the subject. I have my piece hanging on the wall now and hope to visit again every time i'm in Montreal!
They were very helpful and sweet
Very lovely place. 4/5 because o came looking for a notebook. I try to live zero waste and buy local items. Their notebooks were either wrapped in plastic or made in France or China, so there was no good option unfortunately.
