A very pretty state park! We hiked the north peak trail - definitely recommend bringing poles. It is doable without, but it is steep. Very nice views and it is always fun to look across the way and see bits of Canada! The lake is also very pretty.
We love this park. Everyone we spoke to was extremely friendly and professional. The bathrooms and showers were very clean and were tended every day. We loved that this campground had individual showers and bathrooms, so you have complete privacy. The hiking trails were well marked and easy to follow, but be warned the hike up the south peak is STEEP! You should definitely follow the park recommendations to climb it first, then move clockwise around to the north peak. We are experienced hikers and found this climb a little daunting, but we made it and completed the entire hike! The beach area is nice and is within walking distance of the campground, however it is uphill back to the campground. The campground sites are nicely spaced with most being in wooded areas. Overall we would definitely camp here again. BTW, be sure to check out the solar system models on Highway 1 from Houlton to Presque Isle. They are pretty cool.
Great level campsite #3 and fun trails for hiking and xc skiing. If doing the twin peaks go clockwise and have serious boots - it is very steep. No sandals or flip-flops Dog-friendliness: Our GSD hiked clockwise with me this morning. We skipped south peak and I reminded Ena frequently not to pull on the steep downhill off of north peak.
Beautiful park full of amazing hikes, quiet camp sites, waterfront beach and boat launch, and lots of waterfalls and streams to explore.
Had a great time! The trails are definitely challenging, the south peak is not for the faint of hearth or legs. We had a blast fishing, swimming and exploring. We saw a baby maine black bear, deer, geese, ducks and other wildlife. Near to Presque Isle full off good food and activities.
Was very nice and clean. It has it all, hiking, picnic area, water, or just take a walk. Dogs must be on leashes which was fine. They enjoyed themselves!
Beautiful park, the hikes are tough in terms of there being very steep portions. Downhill can be challenging at times.
What an incredible experience! The hiking has some challenges but worth every step. The staff are both helpful and polite. The camp sites are clean. I would absolutely come back again!
People are very friendly and nice. Felt good to get out of Glenburn where people are so uneducated and negative. We just did a quick walk through since my husband grew up here and wanted to go on a childhood memory walk. He misses his brother and father tremendously. The park is super clean and the rangers were very nice. The steps going down to the lake were picture worthy. Can't wait to go back some day to camp, but for us it's a three hour drive. Thank goodness for the beautiful rest area on the interstate which is also picture worthy. Got some pictures of both. Unfortunately my computer is messed up so it won't let me share my beautiful photos of these parks.
This park is great. Scott is the go to guy around here. He knows the campground, hiking trails like the back of his hand. He even told us where to get my first ever lobster roll!!! Was not disappointed! This is a small park with only 30 sites. But it is very quiet and comfortable. The shower house has flush toilets and hot as H.E doubletoothpicks showers! We have only been here a couple of days but have totally fell in love with this park! The park is geared towards winter sports, snowmobiling, skiing, and snowshoeing, but there are a couple of great trails for hiking. Going up to the north and south peaks are strenuous but well worth the effort. The lake is really nice. At least the dog loved it. Didnt get a non resident fishing license to try my hand ,next time up here for sure I'm going fishing!
