Somehow I got lucky enough to visit during the inaugural American Writer's Festival. The exhibits were informative, interactive, and overall a wonderful exhibit. They had several speakers throughout the day in-person and online streaming their presentations or live Q&A. I'm not sure if this is normally the case, but while I was there they had the festival split in two museums, the American Writers Museum and Design Museum of Chicago, so you got to enter both for free. Overall had a fun time and highly recommend to my fellow bookworms.
This place brought so many memories, so many emotions!! Loved every single detail. The Word waterfall, the exhibition of the day. There is so much to do and it is a very interactive visit. My only negative issue was that I had a hard time finding it since there are no proper signs outside and this is in a second floor of what looks like an appartment building. I enjoyed every minute spent.
The American Writers Museum is a must for any living in Chicago an or visitor to the city. I was very impressed with the museum. I had no idea what to expect, but the space was beautiful, interactive, and most of all fun. The museum had a special exhibit called "The Day the World Changed" that focuses on the impact of Chicago's writers. This is a must-see for anyone who loves books and reading! It offers a wealth of information. I highly recommend!!
8/10 ++ A lot of super interesting information Well organized chronologically __ Could have been more interactive/ I expected to also see more items, especially in the first room. I literally spent at least 40 minutes just reading, which not everyone will want to do when visiting I thought some important authors were missing, example Hunter S. Thompson. I was disappointed by the museum store. I had read about so many amazing authors and book and expected to be able to buy said books, but the store only had a few books and very few other items.
Lots of interactive pieces in this museum, which keep things engaging. As a copywriter by trade, I really appreciate the representation of different forms of writing here. There’s also a diverse array of representation for writers across gender and cultural backgrounds here which is great to see. The Ray Bradbury section was a lot of fun.
This museum was bigger and better than I expected. There were also a lot more visitors than I expected. There is currently an exhibit of African American writers as well as an exhibit of Chicago writers and some interactive displays throughout the museum.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$11–15
If you're a writer, go here! If you love reading and learning, go here! If you want to experience a contemporary museum, go here!! I love this place so much. I felt like I was flying after I left. As a Writer, I felt inspired and uplifted. It was the most technically saavy museum I've been to. It represents what the future of learning can be if we use the resources. They had everything I could imagine being necessary in such a modern museum. I can't wait to go back seriously. Only thing I regret is it took me so long to go
Wonderful interactive exhibit showcasing a diverse range of authors and highlighting the impact of literature on the ongoing struggle for social justice in the US. Highly recommend!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$11–15
Absolutely loved my museum visit! So much to look at, had many hands-on activities, and offered a positive look at how writing helps the community. Front desk staff is awesome!
What a wonderful little museum! So incredibly informative and interactive. I could have spent hours here. I have so many notes of books and authors I want to research more. Even the ceiling is well done. Highly recommend!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$16–20
