Almac Motor Hotel - If Busy Call

I stayed at the Almac for three weeks during a work trip. I had a disappointing stay overall. I booked a non smoking king room, however I was initially given a room with two twin beds that had smoke stains on the ceiling and walls. It reeked of smoke. After complaining I was given another room which didn’t smell of smoke but wasn’t much cleaner. The manager was good about switching my room. However the new room didn’t have a microwave and it took me 10 days to get one, despite asking multiple times. A woman told me that there would be a community microwave installed in the hallway for all the wing to share. They barely cleaned any part of the room during my entire stay. They didn’t clean the shower or sink area for two whole weeks! Just made the bed and sometimes changed the towels. Go down the road and pay the extra money for something else.

I’m a high end girlie and I like my high end hotels so why did I stay here? I was here on a work trip and a non profit was paying the tab. The price difference in hotels in this small northern Ab town was 140$ .. so I looked at the other reviews and thought I could do one night .. as long as the hotel was clean. It’s an older hotel that has been partly renovated. There is an outside door situation that was full of oil field trucks by early evening. It is conveniently located right at the edge of town and next to the Independent grocery store. From the outside think small town hotel from the 70’s. I actually went in to see the room before I stayed. The manager. Was friendly and he showed me the room with no problem at all. I had read other reviews and looked at pictures.. I was glad to see the room was clean and pretty typical. I checked the bathroom and it was sparkling. The bed itself was not the most comfortable sleep I’ve had but I did rest and the bedding was cozy. I didn’t think to take pictures because it was late and I had a long day .. but other pictures I have seen reflect my room. The breakfast was standard continental with coffee, cold pastries and I was offered eggs. Overall, knowing I saved my non profit 140$ by staying here is great.. however, one downside- the internet was inefficient and for that reason if you need to work or use any capacity at all, pay the extra money for a hotel with better capabilities. Because I need the reliability of better internet as I am on a business trip, I won’t stay here again .. but it’s not due to cleanliness or service.

I had a very disappointing experience at this motel.nnWhen I first complained about it, the manager admitted that the room I was assigned was not the one I was supposed to have. The first room they tried to put me in was a smoking room. I do not smoke, and the smell was so overwhelming that I couldn’t even imagine spending the night there. I asked to be moved, and the next room I was given was absolutely filthy. Everything was dirty—the bed, the bathroom, the carpet, and even the couch, which had massive stains on it. The kitchen looked as if someone had been living there, with old stickers stuck to the fridge, and the entire room still reeked of smoke.nnThe manager promised me a full refund and took my credit card details, but the refund never appeared. I had to call back multiple times, only to receive repeated apologies and excuses, along with instructions to “wait a few more days.” Weeks have gone by, and the refund has still not been issued. Now, the manager has stopped answering my calls altogether.nnBetween the unacceptable condition of the rooms and the dishonesty regarding the refund, I can confidently say I will never stay here again. This was one of the worst hospitality experiences I’ve ever had.

Awful experience. BED BUGS! BED BUGS! BED BUGS. Spent 3 nights there, woke up on the third morning with bites all over my body. Owner refused refund as it had been 3 days before I noticed, any doctor will tell you that it normally it takes 1-3 days for you to notice the bites sometimes even up to a week. So would I have known before? I lost over $250 in clothing and luggage that had to be thrown out. $300 for a full car detail to ensure I did not bring them home with me. AVOID AT ALL COSTS unless you want bed bugs and to lose a lot of money/valuables. You can also see other bed bug reviews of this hotel when you search for it. I wish I did first.

This is an older hotel but management is making a good effort to update it. The rooms are clean and spacious. But nothing beats the amazing service. Rav goes above and beyond to make us feel welcome and provide his guests with all they need. He is one of the most kind people I've met and customer service is his priority! The breakfast is simple but good. We are happy when we leave and would love to see this gem succeed. Great value for the price.
