Alforno Bakery & Cafe

The food is delicious but I've been a few times and the service is terrible. We asked twice for water and finally I got up and grabbed it myself from the area with the water jugs. A server saw me and just kept going. Our server didn't smile and whenever we'd ask for anything the look on her face made it seem like it was such a bother for her. We had a similar experience the last time we were here as well. Even though the food is great, there are other places with amazing food and good service as well. Maybe they just don't like babies. We won't be back.

Alforno is my favorite coffee and breakfast/brunch place in Calgary. The eggs bennies here are exceptional. Their pastries are also amazing. It is a semi-self serve kind of a restaurant where you order at the front but the server brings you the food. Service is genuinely nice and the ambiance is amazing. I have nothing but great things to say about this place and I’ll definitely go again. 5/5 definitely recommended. If you’re looking for the best brunch/coffee place in Calgary, this is it.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Gordan was very nice with us when we went there for the first time. Nice ambiance too. If you go there in summer, you can enjoy yourself on their terrace!

I visited the cafe on a few occasions. Basing my review off of this most recent visit at 3pm on a Thursday. Staff were friendly. Lots of seats available at this time which was nice. I had the sirloin sandwich which is served on their crispy Italian baguette - a personal favourite of mine although not for those of you that prefer a soft crust bread. The taste was nicely balanced with just a hint of blue cheese, a touch of pickled red onion and arugula greens. A great sandwich and perfect size for me. I also had a double espresso and a Nutella croissant. The espresso tasted nice but missed a good layer of “crema” still good tasting though. The croissant was a little dry on the tips but otherwise very decadent. Total damage was just over $15 plus tips. Plus typical downtown paid parking during regular daytime hours. Part of the dining area has a lovely fireplace and also a large skylight that fills the space with natural light and views of the high rise buildings around you. Avoid peak times if you want to have a good experience as this place can get very chaotic.

Everything here is every well done. It has the feel of a super clean French bakery, with excellent coffee and pastries. This is a perfect spot for a sophisticated coffee date.
