Charming historic building in downtown Guelph that serves good food. We visited on a Monday evening and the place was 50% full. Service was attentive, atmosphere was pleasant, and food arrived in decent time. Looking forward to going back for drinks & apps with friends.
This place has great atmosphere and staff. The wine was really expensive $17 for a 9oz Pinot noir. The bbq cauliflower was amazing, I had it as an appetizer. When the meal came and it tasted like standard low quality pub fare. We had the turkey club and Buddah bowl. In the Buddah bowl, the avocado was served rock solid, I couldn't pierce it with a fork. The avocado was was quickly replaced when I pointed it out. For the price and style of restaurant I expected better quality food.
The Albion Hotel has a really great atmosphere. It feels upscale yet comfortable. The seating varies from booths to nice arm chairs and they provide pillows as well. Great place to meet up for dinner and drinks. The food was reasonably priced and tasted great, and I would definitely recommend the Caesar.
Visited the Albion again for the first time since it reopened under new ownership. $9 draft! Was excited they now offered wings. Ordered a lb of spicy wings with blue cheese dressing. Dressing was good but wings were awful. Wait staff replaced my wings with a new batch but not much better. Wings were overcooked and not spicy. Have been an Albion customer for 35 years. Don't know if I'll go back. This is my old 5 star review. The place is old and dated but that is the charm. No pretences. Cold beer and good food!
One of the best restaurants in Guelph and gorgeous historic building absolutely destroyed by someone who has a reputation for being one of the worst employers in the restaurant industry. I've only ever seen the place open for about 1 week in the past few years.... I can't believe someone would take one of the most popular places in Guelph and turn into some overpriced pretentious cocktail bar that is just a copy cat job of 2 other places already downtown Spring Mill and Gin Mill try being original at least..... I think all the previous reviews in the last year speak for themselves. Please sell this to someone that actually cares about Guelph and values the history of it.
If you haven't tried the Nightmare on Mill Street Pumpkin Ale. You must go now!. Its only on tap for a limited time. I highly suggest making it down to the Albion before the best time of the year ends.
This establishment never fails to please. Happy hour burgers from 4-7 pm for $5? Unheard of but delicious. The meal plus great ambiance and super service = a great night out. Be prepared for a full house and a history lesson. Enjoy!
I've always loved the food at the Albion and it was good as always, but we waited 2 hours for food. We arrived and nobody wrote down our party and it took 1 hour to be seated. It took 1 hour after ordering for our apps to arrive. After ordering at 7:30 we were only able to leave at 10:30pm. The server consistently forget our orders, although I feel the restaurant was understaffed as she seemed stressed. I won't come here again even thought I love their patio.
Extremely busy but worth the wait. Enjoyed the crab cake sandwich. Perfect mixture of tastes and really stood out on the menu. Very cozy atmosphere. Great place to have a small gathering in the downstairs part. Would recommend if you’re getting apps or have a smaller group.
I had been to the Albion once a while ago. This last time was one of my worse experiences. The food was fine, had a butter chicken that was tasting good. Beer selection is also fine. However, the service was a disaster. They took a while to come for the first time and brought 2 menus for 4 people. After, it got worse. A couple of friends arrived after I was there, and literally had to go to the bar to ask for a glass so they could share the pitcher we were drinking. Also, we were never told that the kitchen was going to shut, so when one of this friends arrived, the waiter just said they were not making food for upstairs anymore we were at the patio, but if we were sitting downstairs we could order food there was no one at the dance floor or anything. After trying to understand the logics, they just got one last food order. Just awful experience.
