This was just not a great experience all around and 1 is being generous. People that are rating this a 5 star have never eaten at a 5 start. Service was slow and everyone seemed to be complaining... Yes, we get it... you had two groups in but the rest of the restaurant was virtually empty. Service as slow and I think they forgot we were even there when we first came in. Quality of the food was not good. Soaked in Pepper and just not fresh. Their salmon was not fresh... and was dry. Pasta was coated in thick tomato sauce that seemed like it came from a can. The scallops tasted "Off" and again just not fresh. Asked for a spoon, took 10 minutes. Just not good and we were really looking for a new restaurant to add into the rotation. This one needs to be avoided and is no where near the 4.5 stars that it's being rated. Save your time and money and go to Swiss Chalet instead. Sorry.
The pasta that my daughter and I had was fabulous. Disappointed with the grilled calamari because I've had it there before and it was fabulous. Could not get a glass of Cabernet sav because you have to buy a bottle. Service was very friendly very attentive. Beautiful environment. Ended up having a very nice evening with my daughter.
Food was OK slightly on the disappointing side. My sweetheart's pasta is more like frozen dinner and my steak was not as good as the Keg. Service was OK but more like a family restaurant. I don't like servers making loud noise when taking away plates and silverware. Overpriced to what they offered. House wine was good.
We were treated very poorly for a large party. We were there for nearly 4 hours with children, even after they claimed to have brought in more staff to have to accommodate us. There was no one else in the restaurant on a Saturday night. Wait staff were so utterly rude, and threw such a fuss when we asked them to split the bill in order for us to pay for my brother's birthday dinner. Will never ever be going again, and never would I recommend anyone to go here. Over priced too!!
Waited 2 hours for food. Herd others complaining about wait times as well. Food was bland and even had an issue with one person getting food they were allergic too when wait staff was specifically informed about. Luckily it wasn't a deadly allergy. Which she told me this is the second time this place served her food she could not eat. It's too bad because their menu looked very appetizing. Good for kids but not adults who have any taste buds.
Forget about it! Has gotten so cheap over the last few years. I think it has new owners and they have gone so cheap on all of the meats. The cooks were 20 year olds who were definitely not Italian. We got there at 7:30 pm and didn’t get a drink or free bread until 8:30 pm. saw our waitress once in that hour, the staff too busy talking in the kitchen. Didn’t get our dinner until 9:30 pm and the place had been nearly empty since we arrived ! Then food comes out finally and some meat is waayy over cooked and others way under cooked. One person was physically sick while we were there from something with the food. Had to send a meal back and watch everyone else eat. When the older Italian gentleman owned the place I use to love going there and didn’t mind spending the money because I knew the food was authentic, fresh, always cooked well and done in a timely manner even though they were full capacity. I would not go back ever again. Very disappointed that we were there 3 full hours from sit down to bill payment. They tried to make up for these big mistakes with free wine and desert but the night was long ruined.
Overpriced, poor quality food and terrible service. How this place has such good ratings is beyond me. 75 min before we even received our appetizers. Carpaccio was bland and the grilled calamari was cold. Two mains were finally served after sitting and waiting for 2 hours. Additional two mains came 10 min later! Neighboring table joked about ordering in Swiss Chalet to the restaurant they were waiting so long. The veal scallopini was very thin, chewy and tasteless. Felt like they ran out of veal and were trying to ration. Manager tried to salvage the meal offering us drinks for free and did check on us a couple of times. Never saw our actual server after she took our order. Needless to say I wouldn’t recommend this place.
My favourite Italian restaurant. My wife and I love to take our friends and family to this restaurant, and they love to go! The staff are very personable, with our favourite - George - who always recognizes us and even some of our friends. Calamari is usually amazing, Carpaccio is also another great starter. I recommend sharing a bunch of meals with the table - the Gnocchi with Gorgonzola is amazing - but you would probably prefer to split the dish with four people and have some variety. Veal is always nice, Risotto is nice as well. The specials are always worth checking out as well. Only think I didn't love was lobster as part of one of the specials. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!!
Last Saturday friends took us to Al Casale's for my wife's Birthday. I will say in advance we all read the reviews before making reservations we disturbed by one in particular that seem to go on forever 2 pages of a rant - IMHO! The entire experience was absolutely wonderful from the waitress, to the owner , to the food and the wine. The service was exactly as one would expect when one expects a nice slow fine dining experience. We were never rushed - we were served at the appropriate times for each stage of our meal. The Apperatif's were excellent - well presented and tasted fantastic we all had something different. The main courses too were excellent. And all enjoyed common comment "FANTASTIC". Of course the wine was delicious, as was the dessert. After 2 1/2 hours we all enjoyed the dining experience at Al Casale's and can't wait to go back.
In town on business. On our way to The Keg, a co-worker and I passed by this restaurant, a grand old house that had been converted into an eatery, it looked really classy, so we wheeled around and checked it out instead. Really nice inside, we got some really fresh bread and quality olive oil and balsamic for an appetizer. I had the lasagna, it was fantastic. The marinara sauce was amazing, the pasta home made and cooked perfectly. My colleague had fettucine with Italian sausage, he also commented that it was absolutely delicious. We were the only patrons on a Tuesday night, I'm sure all the crappy chain restaurants were full. Newmarket, you don't know what you're missing! Not to sound too corny, super-highly recommended, I've never been to a finer Italian restaurant.
