Afuri Ramen + Dumpling
"AFURI ramen is different from ramen you’ve had elsewhere. It’s lighter, refreshing—even a little delicate. We’re particular about all of our ingredients, but there’s one in particular that makes AFURI ramen special: we make our signature ramen with yuzu, a small yellow citrus fruit native to Asia. We splash it in our fresh chicken broth and we garnish it on top, too.It adds a touch of freshness to our ramen and pairs perfectly with our broth and charcoal-grilled pork. We think of it as a thoughtful, refreshing update on everything that makes ramen so great."

Ramen was flavourful and not too salty. Noodles were perfect with so much taste every bite. Must try highball. Very rare machine that makes this. Not sweet at all. Lots of whiskey taste. Soda so crisp and cold.
I went with my wife on a Thursday evening for dinner. The place was packed but we were lucky to be seated right away at the bar. I'm surprised at their drink menu. It looks like the drink to get is called the Afuri Whiskey Highball, mixed with Japanese whiskey, soda and lemon. I didn't get it but will next time. We ordered a tonkotsu shio ramen and a yuzu shio ramen. I ordered 3 extra pieces of chasu because I thought I would still be hungry after I finished the bowl, but I was wrong. The portion size is great, and I could have saved half for another day but was hungry. The chasu pieces are a good size though and were tasty My partner felt like the yuzu broth was too oily, but I actually liked it. It's unique because it's a chicken broth, with a sort of yuzu orange flavor. I'm happy with what they've done so far and am excited to go back to try the dumplings and a bevy.
Having tried Afuri in Asia, I’m glad to say that this new outlet on Main Street meets the same standards as the best outlets in Asia. We tried the signature Yuzu Shoyu, Tonkotsu Shio, Ninniku Shoyu and Tsukemen - they were all good. We especially loved the Tsukemen with its thicker noodles that soaks up the umami laden dipping sauce perfectly. The Chashu is also grilled to perfection with the right amount of flavour. Can’t wait to go back to try the other items on the menu.
Went and tried the newly opened Afuri restaurant on main street. We tried the steamed dumplings, pork bun and 2 different types of ramen: the yuzu and tonkotsu shio. I've never tried yuzu ramen: it is light, lemony but flavorful whereas their tonkotsu is more familiar to me: creamy, rich and satisfying. Both were good and liked the option of having gluten free noodles which is extremely rare at ramen places. The dumplings were tasty, as was the bun but felt that the filling to bun ratio was slightly off too much bun. Might be different for the other buns. Regardless we enjoyed our food and look forward to them settling into the neighborhood.
We came here on the Grand Opening day, because we saw an advertisement about their Yuzu infused ramen. The décor is modern and classy, and the servers are super friendly. The restaurant itself is a little on the smaller side though, so you may have to wait during peak hours. The menu is minimalist and attractive. We ordered the shio ramen, the ratan ramen, a spicy chicken karaage bao, a shiitake bao, chicken karaage, and the deep fried gyoza we wanted the original buta pork gyoza, but the deep fried ones are what came out, so okay!. All the items were great. I especially loved the flavor of the yuzu shio ramen. It was subtle but very flavourful, with the complex layers of flavor from their secret tare, much like their advertisement. The chashu had a wonderful grilled aroma to it and it was very tender. Overall, I would definitely come again if given the chance. The team did a great job!
We came early on a weekend evening and were seated right away. The food came quick and the ramen we ordered were quite flavourful and unique compared to other places. One thing that stood out was that all the servers on shift were “close talkers”. I mean they are in your face when coming up to take your orders or checking in on how you are doing. One server got so close that her cheek was right next to my ear. I observed they do the same with other customers so this must have been part of their required training. I think I would appreciate it more if they respected personal space better with customers , especially the staff weren’t wearing face masks. Anyway , food was good, service was good but could have been better if the staff kept some reasonable social distance from customers at this location .
Highly recommend the fried gyoza. Very delicious filling and the outside is crisped to perfection. I enjoyed the soft shell crab bun but thought the addition of kimchi didn't work. The signature yuzu ramen dish made the broth very light and bright, if you like that. Personally I like my ramen broth rich and fatty so I would suggest getting a regular broth. This is my first time exploring the restaurants in Main Street after my return to Vancouver this October. I found this Japanese ramen restaurant and the environment is cozy, comfy and spacious. My wife and I decided to give it a try. We were welcomed and served by very polite servers. I took a look at the menu and decided to try the yuzu shio ramen and my wife picked the yuzu shoyu ramen. It didn’t take long to wait for the ramen. This was the first time I had yuzu soup ramen. To me the yuzu’s bitter after taste had slightly overran the shio taste. Maybe I didn’t expect a strong yuzu flavour. Overall yuzu with shiotasted fine. I tried my wife’s yuzu shoyu ramen and I found it tasted better with shoyu. If I come again, I will pick the yuzu shoyu ramen. By the way, there was a little epilogue with the payment being double debited due to device issue. The staff members were very helpful and sincere to solve the issue.
We ordered the yuzu shoyu ramen and it definitely lived up to the yuzu name. This ramen was different to me as it was light and tangy. The arugula was a great touch and the noodle texture was pretty good. The star of the ramen would be the chashu, 10/10. We also ordered the buta goyza, which was also very delicious. My only critique is that it wasn’t as crispy on the bottom as we expected it to be. but nonetheless the flavours were amazing.
Interesting flavours and unique. I was hoping for a miso based flavour though as that’s my go-to. Karrage was a little more “bready” than I’m used to. And the dumplings/gyoza were fused together in a sort of “pancake” shape. Could use a little veggie in the gyoza to balance it out. The crispy egg was solid, as was the yuzu lemonade. My wife liked the strawberry calpico. The wagyu soup was very flavourful. I’d try it again for their signature flavours.
