Great Japanese market! Beer, sake, snacks crackers, cookies, tea, coffee, bowls, chopsticks, frozen foods like gyoza, ice cream, as well as daifuku. They have a deli case with sandos, maki rolls, temaki rolls, as well as a variety of to go bentos/bowls.
Came to pick up some lunch at around 1:00 pm. The selection was quite big as they have pressed sushi, Bento boxes, salads, appetizers and sandwiches. They also sell alcohol, specialty food items and Wagyu. The store itself was smaller than I thought it was and had left stuff then I expected. In the end I bought a Katsu sandwich for $8.25. The pork was quite hard and very thick and the mustard flavour was VERY strong. I wish there was a bit more of the tonkatsu sauce to off balance the mustard sauce. If I were to compare it to the Katsu sandwich from Saboten in Aberdeen, Saboten would win. The 3/5 stars is mainly for the sandwich. I would come back if I was looking for a specialty Japanese food item but not to buy lunch.
I dropped in after eating at Minami and was surprised to see the variety of food and condiments available. What a great idea for a shop! I bought frozen ikura for a good price. After defrosting in the fridge, the eggs tasted plump and fresh. I’m glad I found a place to get salmon roes nearby.
We used to order sushi take-out from a local restaurant that offers a black rice option which is better better for health than white rice. But lately, we've started coming here because it is so very convenient. And being the first restaurant to introduce aburi pressed sushi to Vancouver, Minami makes the best pressed aburi sushi in downtown Vancouver – their pressed sushi rice is superb. Over time, they have improved their offering in the 'Japanese market' – we can now purchase three kinds of Minami made gyoza, salad dressings and sauces, and even tableware. I also learned that they do sell out every day because one day I showed up at around 5 pm and the choices were very limited and apparently, the sushi in the fridge sells at 50% off just before closing. We are now somewhat addicted to their aburi-to-go items and have tried a variety of rolls and combination aburi, and items from the freezer. I really like their sweet soy sauce, but discovered that the first ingredient is corn syrup, hmmm, better not! Overall, we really like the idea of being able to enjoy Minami food at the comforts of our own home, without having to wait or dress up, and without the noise from the restaurant.
I love this place. Prices are very fair especially for Yaletown. Food is very Very Fresh. Tastes so good. Very easy dishes to go or make quickly at home. Always new items Friendly customer service that is respectful and not overbearing. Stop in this place often
Sushi was fresh. They had a large selection to choose from. Bring scissors if you expect to get open the soy sauce or ginger as no tear line. Friendly service. Spicy tuna roll was 10 bucks so I would say on higher end for getting an item to go.
Great mini market, best egg salad sando I’ve ever had and great place for onigiri. Good range of cook-at-home items and Japanese treats.
Love the fresh sushi & onigiri selection! Great offerings of unique Japanese products. Would definitely be a regular!!
