In fairness, I have not shared my experiences with management nor staff of either Ladysmith nor Cedar Country Grocer. Having said that, I am so totally disappointed with the produce at either store. I have actually recently started traveling out of town to buy my produce.nnCelery - do the staff play football with it after the store closes? If not, why does nearly every single head have broken, cracked or scraped sticks? I have gone through every single head in the display looking for one that is not damaged to no avail.nnRusset Potatoes - how come they are all bruised? Every single potato in a 5 lb. bag has bruises, why? Again are staff having sporting events with the produce after hours?nnLettuce - why is the lettuce rotting in the center? I bought a head of leaf lettuce yesterday and went to make a salad with it tonight and had to throw half of it out as it was rotting on the inside.nnConversely where I am getting most of my produce now, I bought a head of leaf lettuce a week ago and we used every single bit of it and ran out yesterday which is why I picked some up. The pictures below are of the lettuce I bought one day ago…nnFruit - In addition, I see fruit on display at your store that is rotting and bruised, where I go now that is not even put out, it is culled as they are putting them on display .nnUnfortunately I have not found Save On Foods in Ladysmith any better which is why I have gone out of town for my produce now. I need you to know that I believe in shopping local and have for years and the front end staff at both locations are lovely but as prices go higher, quality diminishes and my dollars are finite I have to look for more cost effective options.nnI am now traveling weekly to the Old Farm Market in Duncan where the produce is significantly better quality and the prices are significantly cheaper. For example, a 5 lbs. bag of cooking onions is $1.99, green onions are $.99 per bunch, celery is $1.78 per head.nnAnother option is Quality Foods at Beban Plaza in Nanaimo which has wonderful produce and I stock up there whenever I am up that way.
Tonight, I visited Ladysmith Country Grocers with my Sister in Law and her 5 month old.nThe washroom was out of service but we kindly asked a redheaded mid 30’s man, if we could use the washroom for privacy, to feed the baby.nHe declined and we asked to speak to a manager and he said he wouldn’t be able to find them. He proceeded to go to the back for a minute and come back out to tell us no.nWe were simply disappointed. One thing we’ve always loved about country grocers is no matter the location, there is a sense of community and family. This is the first time I haven’t felt that.
Typical grocery store with fair pricesnnWe found everything under the sun therennI will say however we didn’t find very much organic or healthy options as we had hoped.nnWith that said if you’re used to an average store with lots of goodies this place is for you.
Nice grocery store and friendly staff.nI gave it 4*’s as I have constantly been disappointed in their quality of bananas organic or regular they need to reevaluate who and where their buying and I believe this is chain wide. Other than that I recommend
Great vibes in here. Friendly staff, good food and drinks, and nice to see discounted food rather than it being tossed out. Beautiful art line the walls. Plenty of seating.
