The restaurant is located on a slopey street where cars are parked perpendicular to the sidewalk. It's a nice location. The decor gives a good mexican food. It's a small and cozy restaurant. However, I went on a Tuesday night and I was the only customer. There wasn't any music, but at least the waitress was very friendly and cute. The minute I sat down, I was greeted with warm nachos and homemade salsa. She suggested the fish taco and it was delicious! It was a big portion and I had a lot left to take away with me.
First of all, the place doesn't have a lot of tables, the tables in place are put too much near each other. The waiting time after ordering is a lot too. The dishes weren't hot, and not particularly tasty. I did see a lot of elderly people at this place, so maybe there are only few dishes that they make good. I wouldn't recommend this as I didn't have a good time here.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Don't be thrown off by the front door solid steel door, once inside it's a very small and nice atmosphere. The has quite a few choices and matches what is posted online so you can take a look prior if you are indecisive. There was also free parking across the street on a super slanted hill.
The experience was phenomenal!! I tried the fish tacos and they are the best in town by far. The service was also amazing. It was my friend’s birthday and the server, Diego, came with the kitchen staff and sang Happy Birthday in Spanish. The service was really authentic. Totally recommended.
Their appetizers are very good. Nice cozy atmosphere. Service is alright if not amateurish. We got the loaded nachos but we were disappointed with the lack of seasoning/flavour in the chicken. I will give it another go some other time but definitely won't order the nachos again.
The service was excellent, very attentive from start to finish. The complimentary chips and salsa to start were just right to set the taste buds in motion. The Appetizer Platter was fantastic with the "house dressing" being a perfect pairing for every item with the margaritas being the best I've had.
First time at Zapata's and it was excellent. We ordered take out and the server was very attentive to our order and ensured my wife's food allergies were taken into consideration when preparing our meal. The server was so sweet and welcoming even though we didn't dine in the restaurant. The meal was possibly the best food I've eaten in that price range in this city to date. I lived in Toronto for 10 years and it rivaled most of that Mexican cuisine. We had the Mexican combination and the popular signature dish. I kind of want to eat it again, right now. I ate it 20 minutes ago. Charming location. Great staff. Incredible food that stands out against the same old pub food in the restaurants around it. Will likely go again this week. Support the local business doing something different and doing it right!
Sorry, but not impressed with the food. The service was fine, the atmosphere was good, but the food was not good. Almost everything ordered was fried even the enchiladas. The chicken was not seasoned well, bland and dry. The salsa had heat but lacked flavor. The ribs only non-fried item we received were tiny, even for a half-rack. The rice and refried beans were enjoyable, though. And the food was overpriced compared to comparable dining alternatives. I wish these guys luck, but the menu needs a serious revamp.
This place is incredible!!! Such a cozy and friendly restaurant. The staff was so knowledgeable and nice, Steven our waiter, was absolutely wonderful. The food was like no other. So full of flavour!! And their margaritas are the best in the city. If you live in St. John's and haven't been here, don't waste any time and go.....like tonight.
Some of the best food in town. Have eaten at a ton of the restaurants around town and this place is by far the most friendly and satisfying place to eat. The waitress we had was wonderfully friendly. The chef is fantastic. And again the food was great! Highly recommend!
