WOW Bakery & Cafe (Royal Oak)

This bakery + cafe location is one of the best in the city. They have such a diverse menu of delicious cakes, pastries, and drinks. My boyfriend ordered two cakes for my birthday and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful both on the phone and in-person - most especially Claire! She personally went above and beyond to make my birthday feel extra special, many many thanks to her! I highly recommend making a visit!

Asked for a matcha latte hot, the lady who was washing utensils used the same dirty washcloth to wipe off the steaming pipe!! Wearing the dripping rubber gloves. After that they started rushing us to leave and started moping around us with a strong disinfectant at 6 pm. The place has closing time of 7. They kept coming at us saying we’re closing, even after we said we will leave in a bit she didn’t stop hovering.nnAll over a very bad experience. Wish I had recorded how unhygienic that lady was.

Stopped in before heading to Cheongdam BBQ, and met this lovely lady who offered to hold any purchases we might make until we return from dinner. She was SO sweet and delightful! We ended up having a slice of several cakes and a handful of pastries, and ALL were hits. The shortcake is my personal favorite.nThe chocolate croissant I brought back to my in-law and she DEVOURED it. I think I'm going to have to swing by every time I'm nearby!nMy partner was a sucker for the garlic bread and tiramisu cake!nNote: I find these sweets aren't as straight up sugary and are perfect with tea. :nWe'll most definitely return for more goodies! Thank you!

Updated 2023: They now offer Donuts!!! Omg.. the best donut in Calgary!!!! I've tasted many, this is the best so far. Perfect amount of sweetness, filling, the dough is light and airy .. must try!! Favorite filling was the Earl Grey!!nnWe love the WOW bakery ever since it opened. Now that it opened up close to our house is a real treat. This bakery cafe location is larger than other places with a patio and sitting area.nnEverytime we're near this place, we gotta order our Korean coffee fixing Dalgona coffee. Nice strong coffee with a hint of toffee candy to sweeten up.nnTheir bakery goods are incredibly delicious. They are known for their garlic bread, not your typical garlic bread, but with a hint of sweetness.

We're regulars at the attached WOW Chicken and usually grab some pastries and bread which we've liked previously.nnWe ordered dinner from DoorDash at the attached restaurant and it allowed us to add things nearby. It was a long week and picked out a couple pieces of cake which we've eyed on previous visits.nnThey came in a nice box but that was as good as it got. The first cake Mocha Chiffon looked like the tip was missing but apparently meant to look like that. The coffee/mocha flavor was barely noticeable and had an odd sponge like texture.nnThe Red Velvet was not very flavorful but the creamcheese was surprisingly not too sweet.nnBoth were little pieces of cake last pic shows both in palm of my hand but they are also cheaper than most pieces you see in a restaurant.nnWe'll go back for pastries and bread but avoid the cakes.
