We came here for the $50pp 5 course dinner roulette and it was a neat experience. It’s definitely for those who can never decide on what to order or those who want a surprise. I’m definitely the latter! I like how it’s a plant-forward farm to table restaurant so you know ingredients are fresh and the dishes look great too!. The dinner roulette can be vegetarian, and even without dietary restrictions, it was predominantly plant based. My friend who loves meat was quite impressed by how well they cooked the veggies and the amount of flavour from the sauce! I’d recommend the milk buns, eggplant and the beef wrap. Although everything was good, those left a lasting impression. This place also has a cozy casual vibe, in what looks like a loft/studio. It’s suitable for any occasion really. Overall, would I come back? Yeah, most definitely. I’d be interested to see their brunch options and would be open to trying another dinner roulette since you’ll always get something new. I’d say this place is worth the price they put on their food.
I have to say the best thing about the place was how hospitable, and friendly our server was. He was super knowledgeable and made the dining experience pleasurable. I loved the creativity in our roulette. The only dish I did not enjoy was the cream cheese with bread dish, as it was not nothing spectacular. But everything else was so good. I never thought vegetables could be so tasty. Here are some photos from our stay at Winston. Thanks Winston!
High quality food, the attention to detail is evident and the chefs know how to get things just right. Spacious and comfortable seating with incredibly helpful service. Went for breakfast and had the Benedict, eggs were perfect and so was the hollandaise, the braised pork cheek was exploding with flavour and had an amazing texture. I would certainly recommend and revisit this place to try more of the menu, one thing that caught my eye was the French toast that I saw another patron having. It was piled high and looked super decadent
Four of us went for brunch so I asked everyone their opinion out of five stars and it was a unanimous 3.5 stars. Here is the reason: our server was really nice, friendly and helpful but the service was really slow. The food was tasty and fresh but barely warm and I really dislike places that give you the smallest amount of hollandaise possible. The whole point of eggs Benny is the sauce and then you ask for more and are charged extra. Pet peeve. My girlfriend ordered the avocado toast, and the toast wasn’t actually toasted. Just all of these little things add up to not being able to give a better rating. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and has a good atmosphere. Like I said, the staff are very friendly and the food was good. If they can just up their game on the fine points, I would go back.
Came to Winston for brunch recently and really enjoyed it. Super cool atmosphere, very friendly staff and awesome food. They are definitely a bit more unconventional than your standard brunch place when it comes to their dishes, but it works well. The only thing I wouldn’t recommend is the Pork Cheek. It had almost a gamey and gristly flavour to it but that could just be a point of preference.
What an incredible experience this morning. Impeccable in fact. From making a late reservation and being accommodated, to showing up early and with a full restaurant still being accommodated. To our children being treated like humans. To every smile from every single human working in this restaurant. I feel as I’ve forgotten what truly great experience is dining, and this went above and and beyond. I cannot thank this group of people, and this owner for an incredible Mother’s Day. Oh and the food was delicious. Perfectly cooked. Thank you to everyone. I wish I could give you 10 stars!
This is an interesting spot. While the food wasn’t my favourite, it’s unlike many restaurants I’ve been to before. It’s very veggie-forward and the chef has really experimented with flavours and influences. I ordered the chef’s roulette and it started with their milk buns and “outer space butter” which is everything bagel spice butter. The buns were tasty and a good start to the meal. Next up was the kale goma-ae which to me, missed the mark. It was too salty and there wasn’t enough to balance the bitterness of the kale. After that was a roasted zucchini over a mustard sauce. This was tasty and worked well together. Next was a cactus over a spicy sauce with tofu, served with rice. It reminded me of mapo tofu with a lot of spice, but again, it was salted a little too heavily for my taste. A charred cabbage dish was served next with two types of cheese over a garlic butter sauce. This was good, but needed something more a crunchy texture, maybe. The new finished with the best dish which was the pork belly ssam. It was served with a range of accompaniments and the pork belly was perfectly cooked. I wished their was a small petit four or sweet to finish maybe partner up with a local bakery if there isn’t a pastry chef. In terms of service, the two men working were great. They checked in frequently, were funny and described al the dishes well. The only blunder was they forgot my flat white which I was excited to try because they pride themselves on their coffee. The bill came and I just let it go. I think this place has potential, though I’d like to see them refine their flavours and incorporate a little more than a quarter cabbage as one of the courses. A dessert menu would also be great to go with their coffee. Some more protein or carb options would round things out.
Excellent service, delicious coffee and food! Super dog friendly. Lovely crowd and atmosphere. One of the best cafes for brunch/breakfast on the north shore! A must visit
Super friendly host! A very nice location in lower Lonsdale The food was very tasty but portions are very small It’s a bit pricey but still worth the try They serve great coffee as well
Very friendly staff and good drinks. Prices for brunch were on the high side and I was underwhelmed with the presentation. On this visit we had the BBQ Pork Neck Sandwich, the French toast, and the Swiss chard wrap. The French toast and our drinks were amazing. The pork neck sandwich was dry, too much bread and the bread felt hard. They should consider adding potatoes or side salad to round out the plates. There are better options for brunch in my opinion.
