Absolutely horrible. The emergency room is only useful if you're on the brink of death. I waited for 5 hours without even seeing a doctor while the staff sat around, completely relaxed, as if they were at a picnic in the park instead of an emergency room. It was disgraceful. And to top it off, a nurse had the audacity to tell me that healthcare is 'free'—as if they were doing me a favor. It's not free; we pay exorbitant taxes for decent healthcare, not just service when you're on your deathbed.
My husband and I have had the most disguising experience at this hospital. The nurses and doctors at the Ouellette Campus don't care about black people. They don't care if you are in severe pain. They just tell you to tough it out. He has been in severe pain and had these chronic symptoms for over 5 weeks and all they keep saying is to come back if the symptoms persist. He has followed these instructions and they just ignore him. They have left him in pain without giving him pain killers or checking in on him for over 4 hours each time. This time was the worse. Dr. Carolyn Patricia Adams kept giving him attitude and asking him what was his point, every time he tried to tell her what he was experiencing. She was not professional and showed that she thought he was a waste of her time to treat and take seriously. If you are a person of colour, I would not recommend this hospital at all. It appears they rather you stay in pain and die instead of helping you to live. There is something seriously wrong with the Canadian Health Care System.
If I could give this hospital’s emergency department zero stars, I would. This place is a disgrace to healthcare and an insult to human dignity. I’ve experienced their blatant incompetence and systemic racism not once, but twice years apart and it’s clear nothing has changed.nnIn 2019, I was brought in unresponsive by paramedics. Instead of receiving urgent medical care, I was dumped on a chair like discarded luggage. No water, no care, not even a shred of acknowledgment for five hours. When I finally demanded a ticket tag after waiting in agony, it was useless. After another eight hours of being ignored while others were attended to before me, I had enough. My only conclusion? I was treated this way because I’m Black. No other explanation fits.nnFast forward to today January 2th, 2025: My roommate, a Black student, was in a serious car accident. She arrived with paramedics at 9 a.m. in visible pain a broken arm, a swollen head, severe back issues and yet, by 2 p.m., not even a ticket tag was issued. Meanwhile, we watched as others walked in and were attended to ahead of her. The staff’s response? Cold indifference and zero urgency. When I spoke up about her condition, they still didn’t care.nnThis hospital is the epitome of negligence, incompetence, and outright racism. The staff are unprofessional, inhuman, and seem to lack any understanding of what an emergency actually is. Patients are left to suffer while they play favorites, ignoring those in dire need.nnThe negative reviews here aren’t exaggerations they’re warnings. This emergency unit needs a complete overhaul. Fire everyone responsible for this abhorrent behavior and replace them with people who actually care about their jobs and the patients they’re supposed to help. This isn’t just bad service; it’s dangerous, unethical, and shameful. Avoid this hospital if you value your life.
Recently had a Ct-scan at the hospital and waited for about 15 minutes before they called my name.Total time there was about 40 minutes. The nurse was very friendly and helpful. The entrance to the hospital is off Goyeau street and there is a large parking garage.
7 hours waiting period in emergency ward!! Crazy enough to let a person re think about getting a solution. Love the healthcare system here. Don’t ever come to this place
