Whale Tea

Went on a weekday afternoon and the place was not busy. There were one or two staff members working at the time and two of the three tables were empty. The occupied table had a few people studying and the staff did not seem to mind. Ordered the strawberry black tea and glass whale coconut milk and crystal jelly and both were made after ordering. The drinks were made in good time and we stayed inside to drink them. The glass whale drink cannot be adjusted for sugar. The price is a little high for the size and quality.

We stumbled across The Whale Tea in Richmond and decided to give it a try. I thought it looked familiar and told my husband that I felt as though we'd seen one of these shops in Bellevue. He looked it up on Google and it turns out my instincts were right. There is one in Bellevue. In fact, after looking it up on Google myself, there are quite a number of The Whale Tea shops throughout different cities in the US, and even a few in the UK. We ordered: The Glass Whale Cloudy Grape Slush The Glass Whale had Peach resin in it, along with coconut milk and something blue on top. The salesperson had troubles trying to explain what the blue stuff was. I guess, some kind of Asian ingredient that has no English equivalent?! It wasn't bad but I liked my daughter's Cloudy Grape Slush better. I think I might even order the Cloudy Grape Slush for myself if we end up at this shop again! There was a menu on the window displaying some cake and tiramisu desserts. They looked really cute and the flavors were tempting. I might consider trying some of those next time. Taste too good that I forgot to take a pic after my first sip. I ordered Peach Resin Grapefruit Green Tea. All ingredients seems to be fresh, and it tastes so refreshing. Peach resin is a bit chewy and not too sweet. Might be my fav topping from now on! Menu has great variety of choices which are quite different than those you see from typical bubble tea shop. Worth a try.

I got two drinks from too good to go just now, but peach milk tea is tasteless, I would say it’s milk water mixed with sugar, lack of tea flavor. I had few sips of the milk tea and then I dumped it. The other is lychee jasmine ice tea…the staff added tap water I saw it when he was making it and mixed with tea and I was just unsure if that’s how the original recipe would be. First time tried your drink and it will also be the last.

Pricey but the drinks are good enough. The drinks do have weird names like Black Crystal so you'll have to ask the staff to explain what they are if it's your first time. Probably best for takeout because it's a relatively small space.Food: 3/5
