I like this dance school. Both my kids have been attending it since they were 3 y.o. They have a huge variety of classes for kids from 3 to 18 and recently started classes for adults. My son loves his teachers! Miss Emily is the sweetest! All the teachers there are very professional. My kids have done ballet for the littlest ones Tiny Twirlers, hip hop, jazz and tap. I started attending adult tap and hip hop, the teacher never make you feel like a loser, they know how to teach in a friendly and effective way. I love their year-end performance in June! The level of performance is amazing. When my daughter performed in 4 shows, 3 days in a row, I attended most days and was impressed by the professionalism and creativity of the dance numbers, costumes and repertoire. The school is quite competitive. Their students participate in a number of competitions in the province. Kids are recommended to attend several dance types for greater achievement. Tracy, who runs the office, knows her stuff. She's been with the studio for something like 20 years. She resolves any issues quickly and professionally, remembers the majority of the families. She may sometimes get overwhelmed at a crunch time, but who wouldn't with hundreds of students and parents?! I highly recommend this studio! It's very welcoming for kids of all ages, offers lots of classes and teaches on a high level. And the price for the classes is very-very affordable!
This studio used to be a great little place, but in recent years we've had so many bad experiences. Their main focus is on competitions rather than the well-being of the dancers and they consider parents like servants and not customers. I saw teachers yelling at parents about costumes during a recital; while the parents were busy changing their 6-year-old kids - they didn't even get to see their kids dance. Not only that, they are very unorganized and there is only one-way communication often at the last minute. I would receive 3 emails telling different arrival times for shows on the day of the show, and the dancers who arrived late were yelled at by the teachers. Emails sent to the office often has an auto-reply indicating they are too busy to respond. It's their way or the high way. Yelp also has reviews from other parents...
Westside has been my home since I was 4 years old. The teachers are so so so supportive, creative, dedicated, passionate, and caring. The environment is very family-like. Every one knows who you are, and you can't walk through the door without a hello. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. PS: Westside is changing, although I'm sure everything will be great in the end. Westside will become VanCity Dance Connections, and will also move locations.
This is a family run business that has a very high opinion of itself because it is so insular. The office provides consistently poor communication with parents if you are even given a response. If you love Abby Lee's motto "everyone is replaceable," if you are ok with mediocre dance instruction, and if you have the stomach for spending tons of money for you and your child to be treated with complete disregard-- this is the place for you!
We had bad experiences with the office at West Side Dance. There is very poor communication with the parents. I would call and leave messages repeatedly without getting answers, and communications were often sent out to parents last minute. We've had the most frustrations with this office than for any of the many other activities my kids have participated in.
Website is chaotic, communication is poor. Pluses - teachers are chill and love dancing, and nice to the kids. Office staff is nice.
