One of the best museums in the city. Wonderful exhibit at the moment. Helpful knowledgeable staff. Nice bike ride station right in front. Highly recommended.
Spent a lot of time at the Weisman discussing the nature of Shoreham Yards with the Gudrun Lock, the curator of this exhibit. Learned a lot about how nature is figuring things out even when the Canadian Pacific Railroad, the Minneapolis Park Board, the city of Minneapolis can’t. The view of the Mississippi River is amazing from the Weismann’s river view room. The BJO Nordfeldt American Internationalist exhibit was worthwhile with plenty of paintings. Foundling 100 days was too. Plenty of reasonably-priced parking underground. Admission is free with a $10 voluntary suggested donation.
I own Celisia Stanton Photography, and one of my clients held their wedding at the Weisman Art Museum. The Weisman is the perfect wedding venue for a couple looking for a more unique and less traditional wedding venue. My clients and I were able to explore the museum for couples photos, and it was so fun to capture candids of them in front of the art. The outside of the museum is also gorgeous, and it was so cool to capture couple's and family photos with the Minneapolis skyline in the background. Highly recommend this venue to any couples looking to host an intimate wedding with a unique and artsy twist.
Sadly museum is still closed. Not sure when/if they will reopen. It is worth a stop to see, Gehry’s buildings are always so eye-catching and on a sunny day captures the sun perfectly. Building is located along river in middle of campus so plenty to do around the area. But make sure you verify nurses is open if you actually want to go in.
Wife and I came here and the art is so beautiful. I will admit there are some that I did not get but I love art so it was fun. It’s free so go check it out
The exhibit was on the smaller side, but was still a very nice selection. The architecture of the building was amazing. I definitely recommend coming here if you’re in the area. The museum is free admission and the art reflects St Paul and Minneapolis well.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitPrice for adult entryFree
The current exhibits, including Message from our Planet and Ebb/Flow, are outstanding. One featuring tech, one of hand-crafted objects, ends of the creative spectrum. Each tech piece engaged me in a different way. Ebb/Flow's sound track new, in my experience at Weisman captured me in the exhibit space; I stood for a long time just listening. One last strong exhibit--The World Inside You-- by young people, delighted me with its thoughtfulness and simplicity. While all my favorite permanent collection pieces tried to attract my attention, I could barely glance at them after spending a long time with the recent exhibits. It felt like a present, on a cold, snowy April Sunday. Thanks, Weisman.
Amazing building, only 1 floor of exhibits and a few rooms are closed so it doesn't feel huge compared to the Walker or MIA. It's free, and I felt like the main attraction is the building itself. Exhibits typically change every school semester. Very friendly and helpful staff, I found the best view of the building from the Washington Avenue Bridge. Parking underneath the building was easy and only $3. Capacity is limited due to covid but wasn't an issue when I visited.
A small but nice collections. There are good history info to learn as well.
