Maintaining our working lands, sustaining the rural lifestyle, and putting people back to work. www.wallowaresources.org
We focus on three priorities: maintaining our working lands, sustaining the rural lifestyle, and putting people back to work.
To maintain our working lands, we work with landowners and partners to maintain and improve local livelihoods. We believe rural communities are stronger when landowners and stakeholders work together, and we know from experience that collaboration improves the success of land and water management. Collaboration is our way of doing business. Some of our programs include Wallowa Canyonlands Partnership, Wallowa-Whitman Forest Collaborative, and Upper and Lower Joseph Creek Restoration.
We sustain the rural lifestyle by telling the stories of rural America, sharing them within our community and with the next generation. We strive to raise our collective knowledge and awareness of rural issues at community, state and national levels. Our programs are place-based, practical and applied, skill-building, hands-on, and are creating a new generation of leaders.
We put people back to work by bringing innovative ideas to economic development around natural resources. We have helped launch several new businesses in small-diameter logging, land stewardship, and renewable energy. In doing so, we strive to create family-wage jobs, promote economic development, and catalyze the growth of businesses around local natural resources. WR Community Solutions, Inc., as our for-profit subsidiary, creates and sustains small businesses and jobs tied to natural resources and renewable energy by providing capital, business services, and technical support.
Our mission is to develop, promote, and implement innovative solutions to help the people of Wallowa County and the Intermountain West sustain and improve their communities and their lands.
