Wagener County Park is located about five miles south of Harbor Beach, MI. This was my first trip there camping. The park grounds are very nicely kept up with very little litter and trash on the ground. The bathhouse was clean. The usual beach sand was well controlled far better than any other State Park I have stayed at in the facilities. I am beginning to see that these smaller county parks verses State of Michigan run parks differ in their appearance and maintenance levels. This park is over 120 acres of area and has a very nice trail system for walking and biking. Late July and August campers can feast on the wild berries along the pathways. These smaller county parks are doing a better job of upkeep and maintenance. The people staying there seem to take care of their sites too. Our campsite was mainly crushed limestone and solid with a slope to the rear of the site. I did need some extra 2x6s cribbing to shore up my camper struts so they would reach the ground with the grade of the ground. For the full service hook-up where we stayed, I would say that the camping spaces are adequate, but felt close by comparison to other campgrounds I have stayed at. No issues with the sewer, water, or electric. The tree canopy around the site made for comfortable shade even when it was near 90. Heavy rains did come but the site drained well. For photography purposes at night the park is pretty good. There is a lot of light around the park itself and from Harbor Beach to the north. One can find some dark areas away from the street lights with a little walking. I shot photos in the fields near M-25 at the entrance and along the shoreline of Lake Huron. The weather changed by morning with storms arriving after daybreak and lasting all day Wednesday. It is a great little park. The beach was sandy, with some mucky silt / clay about 75 feet out, then larger rocks and boulders. Water was turbid until you got away from the beach and out near the rock reef in 10 feet of water. Snorkeling was fun and the water was warm. I highly praise the park crew working here. Lighthouse Park north was another park I have stayed at. I am glad we stayed here. Huron County Parks are doing a good job.
Stayed in the cabins with our 13 month old daughter and had a fantastic time. Staff was friendly and even helped take our luggage to and from the cabin. Cabins are simple but very clean and not a spider in sight. And the heat is great on cold nights! We will definitely be back.
We camped here in August of 2021 and loved it. Park was nice. Our site was right next to the beach trail and we loved it. Rocky and slippery swimming, so I wouldn't suggest going out without good shoes including toe coverage or you'll end up a bit bruised. We had a blast riding the waves. A few rocks but not much in the way of rock hunting. All around great trip, we'll definitely be back!
Wagener Park Campground in Huron County is the BEST!! There's well groomed hiking/biking trails all over the park. Waterfront tent sites. 68 electric only sites that are good for large RVs. Cabins for rent. Also 28 full hook-up sites. I highly recommend staying here!! Playground: Located on the waterfront sandy beach. Restrooms: Clean restrooms. 3 showers available. Dog-friendliness: Dogs are not allowed on the beach. Picnic area: WATERFRONT!!
Mid May stayed for 2 nights. Campsite was clean, staff was awesome, views of lake Huron second to none. Prices very reasonable, easy to reserve online. This park is a gem in the thumb of Michigan.
Love the place! Nice and quiet in the full hook-up sites. Nice walk to the beach. Great beach to get some sun or hunt for rocks. If you just want to hook up water and electricity, get a beach side site! Rustic and well maintained trails. Very friendly office staff during the day. Arriving late with a reservation, no problem... Just check in the next morning. I really like the place. My best take away: poor cell service! Yes, I like being off the air when I camp. If your looking for a great relaxing getaway, this is the place!
This place was absolutely beautiful. Great beach for kids, clean park and awesome staff. We drove ten hours and stayed four nights and it was amazing. I can't wait to come back
Been coming to Wagener for 10 years now as we have family who keep campers there seasonal. The park is constantly making updates. This past summer was the first time we stayed in one of the cabins and it was very nice for the price.
We have stayed in the rustic cabins several times over the years. The last time was 5 years ago. This past weekend our family rented two cabins. The park looked like it had been cleaned up and improved. We talked to the lady who manages it now and she talked about the changes that were made. It is absolutely a beautiful place to stay. Our cabin looked out at the gorgeous Lake Huron with a walkable beach the entire length of the property. The bathrooms are clean. Firewood can be purchased at the office and delivered to your cabin/campsite. All the workers their are friendly and helpful. And the best part, you can bring your dog! We had a wonderful weekend and can't wait to go back but as of right now, all the cabins are booked through the next few months.
Had a great time. Beautiful views on Lake Huron and the staff was very nice. Working bath house and wood & ice delivery to your site!!
