Really amazing place. Big portions, delicious, well cooked, soft meat. We had multiple chicken and beef dishes, all extremely satisfactory. The BBQ chicken was super juicy and soft. The beef sugar/stew was flavourful. The chicken steak was so nice and juicy and the chicken stew was lemony and salty and very good. The service was also very good. They gave us free soup, traditional hot sauce, and drinks with free refills throughout. We got there late, which meant some things had run out but they went above and beyond to give us recommendations that were delicious, and remained cordial and polite throughout. The food also came really fast! Definietly recommend, and will be coming back!
I went to this place with my cousin as he heard many good things about it. Upon arriving I looked at the front of the restaurant and couldn't find words to describe this sign, I legit thought he made a mistake based on the neighbours floating around the area but looks can be deceiving......kind of. The decor looks dry, nothing much to write about but the front counter looks like something you would see at a 1980's version of 7-eleven. There is only like 6 tables and the majority of the space is just flooring with nothing else around. I assume it's a dance floor at night or something because it doesn't make sense to have all that empty space otherwise. This place is more of a diner than a restaurant. You have to get the waiters attention before they come to you or they just plain won't come until they are serving you what you ordered. That might actually be the reason they have so few tables but regardless, it can be a little annoying trying to wave the man down. That aside, he could answer any questions I had so I'm happy with the service I received. On to the food. Whatever you order, comes with mango juice and I ordered an extra pitcher of lemon juice. Both were a little too sweet but you get a lot of it for what you pay. The tea I got was good, sweet on the right levels. I ordered a soup also, much smaller than expected and was slight bland but it was a few dollars at most. For dinner I ordered the goat meat with pasta. The portion was large, really impressed considering what I paid for it. It also comes with your choice side, I chose pastaagain the portion was massive. The taste however leaves something to be desired. I believe the cooks put the sauce on the meat before they cook it instead of marinating it. The sauce was pooled at the bottom of the plate so I had to just spoon the sauce onto the meat constantly if I wanted the meat to have flavour. If the meat had this flavour throughout it then I would easily recommend this place because it was tender as hell. The meat by itself was almost flavourless though. Ending comments: bad decor, good enough service, okay food, great portion sizes, terrible location, the best prices. I will go back to try another dish but until then, I can't recommend this place to the chickens scared to cross that downtown barrier. If you're just trying to get full for cheap prices though, you may want to come get this.
Very good!! Prices are very affordable for what you get Paid $17 and got so much food! Definitely like trying out new places. And this location was great. Wish my friends mentioned it to me earlier because id already be here ten times! Thank you very much to the owner and to the waiter who showed me such great hospitality. I can't wait to be back for more! :
We got vegetable soup as an appetizer for free, it made us warm, and the rice portion is super duper a lot, it made me take it out after.Food: 5/5
This place is price friendly and has high quality of African food. The grilled tilapia and lamb leg is so amazing. Service is good and tables are clean. This place is a hiden jewllery with full of surprise!
This place is fantastic— great prices, big portions, tasty food. We ordered the goat combo and beef muskalo. We got starter soups, bananas, and complimentary mango juice. Would definitely return when in Edmonton!
I had a terrific first experience from this restaurant today. The food was exquisite pairing with their high quality ingredients. The environment felt cozy as soft music played on the speakers. The prices were great for the average person and the services excellent. I may only had one of their many main courses but I can say that I will come around again.
I had the pleasure of dining at VILLAGE RESTAURANT on two occasions, and I must say, it was an experience to remember. During my first visit, I ordered the grilled lamb shank combo, which was cooked to perfection. The dish was succulent and infused with an array of tantalizing flavors that I simply couldn't resist. The mango juice and lemon juice complemented the dish perfectly, while the chapati and green pepper sauce added an extra layer of sophistication to the meal. On my second visit, I ordered the BBQ chicken combo, which was equally delicious, but there was a slight delay in getting my order. However, the waiter promptly addressed the issue and provided me with a discount on my dishes as an act of goodwill. The chicken was tender and juicy, but my friend found the T-bone steak to be slightly chewy. Nonetheless, the waiter kindly solicited our feedback on the dishes, demonstrating a remarkable level of customer service. Overall, VILLAGE RESTAURANT is an excellent establishment that excels in providing exceptional culinary experiences and customer service. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates exquisite cuisine and impeccable service.
This restaurant is superb, words can’t describe the lamb shank. It’s must have have with the whole fish. Every time I come here, I am welcomed with great energy and you can see the passion in the food as well. I look forward to my next visit with friends!
I was recommended to try out Village by a friend. Was a little hesitant going in since there was nobody dining in when we arrived, and restaurant was very dimly lit. The the location is also not the greatest, but the food made it all worth it!! We ordered the sweet chicken, beef muskalo and beef steak with rice. It all came out in one large dish, with complementary mango and lemon drinks. Rice was very fragrant, meat was tender and juicy. Would absolutely recommend foe anyone looking to try African food.
