The Gallery’s innovative ground-breaking exhibitions, extensive public programs and emphasis on advancing scholarship all focus on the historical and contemporary art of British Columbia and international centres, with special attention to the accomplishments of First Nations artists and the art of the Asia Pacific region. A good experience to discover art in Canada especially the works of women artists. You can learn a lot about their life and works during the early 20th century, in addition to enjoying watching such original beautiful paintings, photos, and sculptures. Also, the digital art exhibition on the second floor is very unique and joyful. The price for adults is around 29 Canadian dollars which is a little pricey for this museum because it is not such a huge museum. The good news is free admission for kids and seniors that encourage families to bring their children to explore the world of art. Generally, it is a good experience in Vancouver for tourists and art fans.
The Vancouver Art Gallery is DEFINITELY NOT the best art gallery in the world. Not even close. The collection is limited and new exhibits are rarely attention grabbing. But if you keep that in mind, visiting can still be a fun experience. Lots of their artwork is Canadian, so the landscape pieces are beautiful. The Indigenous artwork also provides a unique contrast to most world-class galleries, because it provides a break from Euro-centric art. It’s a new perspective to explore through art. If you’re a tourist, I’d skip this spot. As a local, it’s worth seeing. There’s lots of stories to see here, and a big portion are local. Don’t bring your kids though. There is a designated section for children, but lots of the art is graphic. Do bring your camera. The gallery makes a good place for pictures.
This is where art exhibition, social protest, filming, street busking, lunch break, and many more events take place. This beautiful and graceful heritage building is in the heart of Downtown Vancouver. My family enjoyed the exhibition today. It’s also a good spot for some photos.
really enjoyed the Yoko Ono exhibit here. Went on a Tuesday night where it was entry by donation and that worked out nicely as I only had about an hour or so to go through it all. Very nicely laid out and so much information about the pair. I loved how interactive the exhibit was and it allowed you to think and be creative too! If I had more time I would have checked out the other two floors. I will do that on my next visit for sure
WOW!!! What an awesome place. The best is to check it out on a Tuesday evening. Entrance on donation. Exceptional displays and right now everything about John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Love the Indigenous focus. #vancouverartgallery
The Vancouver Art Gallery is always a delight to visit with contemporary exhibits within its four floors. The main floor exhibit features high caliber artists. Additional exhibits range in mediums and themes. It's what makes it a joy to return to - the rotating exhibits. It's a great way to spend a few hours downtown.
I’m glad I managed to visit the art gallery during my trip to Vancouver—definitely a unique and lovely collection. The upper floors veer away from the classical art vibe in favor of modern tech art, which is super cool.
It's nice, not exactly what I thought it was going to be though. The first floor was dedicated to Yoko Ono's work, which I did not like. The second to the fourth floors had different kinds of exhibitions which some were nice. If you want traditional art on the walls this is not your place.
Visited April 2022 on a Tuesday by donation. Yoko Ono exhibition was on. I truly enjoyed it. Modern art, need to be open for new forms of art. Very interactive, engaging. The other two floors where full of exhibitions: artificial intelligence, kids expression… I didn’t have enough time to see them all. By reading the other reviewers, it seems like there are times where the Gallery is empty. It wasn’t my case. If I visit Vancouver again, I will certainly come back.
A decent collection on the first floor, and some creative exhibits on the upper floors. The Emily Carr pieces were wonderful. The AI exhibit on at the time I visited in 2022 was sometimes confusing to explore. The exhibits were numbered, but frequently placed out of order. Overall, a pleasant experience that took a few hours in the afternoon to complete.
