The manager here photo irks me be beyond belief, and I will never be back. If you want to hear the story time, I’ll entertain you - just over a year ago I wanted to purchase one single infant sweater. At the checkout, the manager would not let us purchase the sweater without going back to get an infant child clothing bag. We were in a rush as we had a passport photo appointment, and she refused to just ring up the $3.99 herself. Even her staff members said she was being unreasonable. I watched her break every bit of composure and a woman who I have never seen get frustrated before My MIL who was with me has the patience of a saint. We ended up having to go get that bag to put the single item in and then she allowed us to ring up and leave. This time I went to the store to purchase more children’s clothes. She informed me that she had to check every single item that I put in the bag. She dumped out everything I had nearly folded and shook the folds out. And then would not let us take that bag with us. Mind you her rules in this store state that the bag must be tied shut when you check out. I have never heard of such a thing. I have had other minor interactions with this woman every single time I have shopped here - totaling to about 15 shopping trips in the last year. The interactions surround the children’s clothing policy was the straw that broke this camels back.nBeyond that - their pricing is OUT OF CONTROL. For a broken pair of shoes with leather rot- they’re charging $20 with no wiggle room.nBeyond that - Did you know that every time you donate to value Village you are giving value village a tax write off. They donate funds to a charity based off of the weight of your donation and then write that donation off as a tax break. Every time you donate, you make them more money.
As a long-time Value Village customer, especially at the Ajax location, I’ve always appreciated the concept of affordable secondhand goods. However, over the past years, I’ve noticed a consistent and troubling rise in pricing across all departments — from clothing to household items and even donated toys.nnI understand the need for any business to cover costs, adapt to market trends, and consider resale values. But this has gone beyond reason. Prices on used goods now often rival or even exceed what similar items cost new or on ebay. It’s disheartening to see a place meant to offer accessible options for families and thrifters turning into an overpriced reseller.nnThis isn’t just about saving a buck — it’s about principle. These items are donated, and the community deserves better pricing integrity. I urge others to take notice and consider whether supporting this pricing model is in line with the original spirit of thrift shopping. It’s time for a public wake-up call.nnDo better, Value Village Ajax + gta loctionsnexample below
this value village is selling the most blatantly obvious bootleg in the world, for $10 more than the legitimate item retailed for.nnmanager chose to ignore me completely when i brought this to her attention. told me that if i donated something, i could save 10% off.nnselling overpriced counterfeit items seems to be a pattern for this location.ndont come here, total waste of time.
They have lots of stuff but value village prices their clothing items the same price as if I were to buy brand new. Ive found items from dollarama that value village priced higher than original price. And honestly there's no excuse for this. They get all their items donated to them. This is exploitation at it's finest.nnAlso they have no change rooms, so you can't try on clothing, but you can't get your money back either; just exchange. Doesn't feel much like a thrift store to me.
SCAM ALERT: Value Village Ajax Sells FAKE Designer Items at Ridiculous PricesnnAvoid Value Village Ajax like the plague. This location is the worst thrift store experience I’ve ever had. They are scamming customers and profiting off donations by listing fake luxury items at outrageous prices. I saw a pair of counterfeit Louis Vuitton men’s shoes priced at $500 — no box, no tags, no authentication, nothing but a low-res printed receipt that could be faked in Microsoft Word.nnWhen I asked the manager for proof of authenticity, she couldn’t provide anything real — just excuses. Newsflash: Value Village is not a luxury resale boutique. Yet they price items based on inflated eBay listings, not actual resale value or legitimacy. This is a ripoff, plain and simple.nnStaff are untrained and unbothered — two employees were juggling self-checkout and locked display cabinets, ignoring customers completely. I rang the assistance bell multiple times and got zero help. If you’re hoping for service or decency, don’t waste your time here.nnLet’s be real: Value Village is not a charity — it’s a for-profit resale chain that exploits donations to flip junk for top dollar. And this Ajax location takes it to another level of shady.nn DO NOT DONATE HEREn DO NOT BUY DESIGNER ITEMS FROM THIS STOREn FAKE ITEMS SOLD AT REAL DESIGNER PRICESnnPost your items on eBay or Kijiji yourself — don’t let these scammers get rich off your generosity. Shame on Value Village Ajax.
