The food and vibe of this place is great. I got the grilled chicken with the tiger sauce and husband got the skirt steak also with the tiger sauce. We also got the lemongrass sauce on the side. Everything was great. I just thought the skirt steak was a bit tough and I had a hard time chewing but the flavor was on point. The union Hmong kitchen is located *inside* graze with a few other eateries sharing a dining space with open seating. They also have a bar and you can reserve some spaces for special events. Overall it was a good experience.
Heard about this place through Iron Chef and was very excited to check it out. We had the Hmong sausage and the flank steak and both were awesome. The flavor of the grill/char on both was extremely satisfying. We were not aware until arriving that the restaurant is in a food hall, and is not a standalone location. It looked extremely packed until we got closer and saw that most of the crowd was just there to drink at the indoor-outdoor bar
Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 My husband and I ordered the zoo siab meal for the steak with a side of curried potatoes and chicken with side of khao sen noodles, marinated pork belly and skirt steak, and chicken sandwich. Presentation was mouth-watering. Both steaks and pork belly was marinated very well and tasted good even without pepper and I love spicy foods. The sides we got were more on the light side which compliments the protein well. The grilled chicken and chicken sandwich was OK, the steak and pork belly was tastier in my opinion. I would definitely come again to try other items on the menu.
Enjoyed the atmosphere. Presentation was nice. Wasn't too busy. I ordered the Graze meal but was a bit disappointed they ran out of the fish. They substituted that for the steak and pork belly. They missed our steak but cooked it and brought it out to us. Staff was nice and gave us 2 free coconut lychee colada. Would come back again.
First of all, the location is a great place to eat. It’s a good court with tons of different restaurants. Ideal for people who can’t decide on one place to eat. The plating is Instagramable. As for taste, the sticky rice is right on, the pepper has a herby taste that goes well with the skirt steak, and the veggies were tasty. I got the side of Brussels sprouts. Definitely a must try when in town.
I like the concept of this location but a little dissapointed in the execution. Tried to order the skirt steak "Happy" meal, they were out, then they were out of the BBQ pork, so onto choice three - the Hmong sausage. My favorite part was the charred asparagus and the couple of pickled vegetables that came with it. The sausage was fairly spicy and the sticky rice, once removed from it's sandwich baggy was extremely sticky and bland... Maybe just a miss for me but the seasoning seemed to be extreme or non existent. I'm also not a huge fan on the 18% surcharge for counter service, but appreciate they don't ask for a tip on top. It also took quite awhile to come up for what it was... Parking: Street meters available
Not to be dramatic, but this is one of the best foods I’ve ever had in my entire life. I got the Zoo Siab meal with the BBQ pork and fried Brussels. The tiger bite hot sauce really pulled everything together but even each thing on its own was spectacular. Great flavor and spice. Awesome portion size too; I have some left over. Highly recommend. In the photo, the dish on the left is from The Fabled Rooster, which he also REALLY enjoyed
Delicious! After watching Iron Chef, our family traveled here to try Union Hmong Kitchen. We loved the flavor profiles. The sauce that came with the pork belly was so good, well balanced, addictive and the skirt steak was flavorful and tender.
I really wanted to love this restaurant because I always want to support Hmong people and their businesses. The food is decent but it is not representative of what Hmong food is. This is more like Asian fusion food? I ordered the grilled pork and chicken Happy Meal platters. The sticky rice was dry and the meats were under seasoned. Hmong food should be bright and full of flavors that stimulate your taste buds. Their pepper sauce was not even spicy. Listen if you’re new to southeast Asian food, then yes go eat here it’s safe enough to try. But if you’re expecting anything authentic or flavorful, then go to Hmong Village or Hmongtown and grab food from the food stalls there. I am a fan of Chef Yia and I’m excited that he’s putting Hmong cuisine in the national spotlight. I hope his new restaurant will showcase what Hmong food is or can be.
I was excited to come and try this. Grabbed every meat portion to try and each meat we got was brunt. Sadly. I could grill better than this and I barely grill. Chicken was undercooked and beef was dry Service was nice and sweet though. Probably first and last time eating this. Also got the hangover noodle. It was okay. Not in my tasting
