Stayed down of the lock. The walk into town is about 15 minutes. Stopped at a brewery and then the grocery store. Later that afternoon, we had the cutest uninvited guest. Got him out without incident. Since there is no power here and the weather was cool and breezy, we opened our salon windows. The little fella climbed up a fender and in through the window. Lesson learned. Keep wall side windows closed.
Mind blowing and unforgettable experience, the boat gets 70 ft up via hydraulic mechanism from river, the system used was never seen in my entire life, the boat captain was hilariously funny and too good , was a 5 star entertainer and very friendly
Great place to hang out for the day.nNice place to fish.
It is a historic site. It is a wonderful experience to see how they operate the lock.
The meandering 386 km Trent Severn Waterway has two lock systems in Peterborough. Ashburnham Lock #20 was constructed in 1896-1900 on the northeast corner of Little Lake. Facilities and services include overnight mooring, potable water, washrooms, camping, and a visitor center. Five hundred metres, north of Lock #20, is the Peterborough Lift Locks. Construction also began in 1896 and was officially opened in 1904. It is one of two lift locks on the Trent Severn Waterway and the largest in the world. The CPR truss swing bridge built in 1898 was originally hand turned. It still operates today and adds another element of character to this historical Canadian site.
