REALLY cute grocery store, the cake pops from the bakery and the salads from the deli are wonderful - 3 stars for those!nHowever I also got an apple/brie sandwich, which was genuinely disappointing for the price. The bread was soggy with brown juice and tasted spoiled, I assume from sitting out for hours. I would recommend getting the sandwiches fresh, first thing in the morning if you can.
This used to be a great stop to grab a good sandwich for the day, I bought a West Coast Vegetable sandwich today and what a disappointment. The vegetables are sparse and the cheese is so thin you can't taste it ... what happened to this great little deli?nThe customer service is always good, I was shocked by my purchase today.

The Port Place Thrifty's bakery is one of the best in town. When it comes to sweet treats this bakery in particular takes the cake. Even their cinnamon buns are better made than other Thrifty's bakeries. They put a lot of care in the things they bake and it makes a huge difference compared to other stores.
One of the better chain supermarkets in Nanaimo, it feels more like a smaller independent. Staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable and the stock includes a selection of many organic options, sometimes better priced and typically fresher and more varied than at other supermarkets. Some staple items are more expensive than at other chains but some are cheaper, too
