the Vortex

I don't usually write reviews like this, but my first experience here tonight was so bad that I need to. I went in to ask about a replacement needle for my dad's old record player. I'm new to record players, so I asked if they carried needles and I gave him the model of player. The man behind the counter cuts me off and says, "THAT TELLS ME NOTHING!" I then showed him a picture and asked if it might help. He just shut me down and went on lecturing me that I need to bring in the player and "what's in my best interest." I understand that what he was saying is right, but his negative tone and condescension really shocked me. Instead of being friendly and helpful, he was rude and dismissive. I will not be bringing my record player in.

Great vibe great people. Bruce is always super helpful. The atmosphere is great. This is the best stop on 3rd.

The Vortex is a great little record store! Besides having all kinds of vinyl, they also stock, T-Shirts, posters, patches, stickers and other music related merchandise. Of note are the various options for listening to one's vinyl. Old turntables and new are in the window if you are ready to go back to the mellow, golden tones of a pure sine wave.

Bruce is a cool brotha with a "customer is not always right attitude" and it can be a little different than other businesses but i definitely like the originality and unique taste that one can cultivate from sticking to who they are. Always easy to do business with in my experience and has a great selection of music. I like the new location, and really dig the "your home" vibe when walking in.
