Fresh, seasonal dishes along with standards such as beautifully prepared steak, seafood and salads. The dessert trio was perfect for our party of 4 to share. Attentive service, good wine selection. Nice outdoor dining area and inside by the windows is beautiful. A great find!
This place is such a unique gem in a small historic town. I love that Scarlet Kitchen and the St James Hotel played into both the grandeur of its history but also the modern flare of the present. I didn't even feel like I was in Minnesota, let alone a small town in Minnesota. Had weekend brunch on the patio and it was beautiful. The service was great. The food was delicious. It was an amazing time. Parking: Private parking ramp
Stopped in for a Sunday brunch. We were able to get 4 of us seated quickly and in a nice booth modern and better than most boothes. The restaurant looks very nice, modern and upscale. It's located in the historic St. James hotel so that was cool to see after brunch. The service was very good, the menu had plenty of good options and looks like a great lunch or dinner spot. I ordered the Biscuits & Gravy Biscuits, sausage gravy, breakfast potatoes, peppers, onions, etc. And it was very good and filling. My wife ordered the Banana Foster French Toast Nicely crisped & had candied pecans which was also very good. For drinks I had a bloody Mary Good but could have used a beer chaser and more toppings. My wife got the Mimosa flight You pick 4 to try and I would highly recommend it. Features: No distancing, wait staff was masked.
We really loved the old hotel and the restaurant! The menu was a bit limited but the food was very good, our waitress was exceptional! I had the salmon and it was excellent, another had the ribeye and that was very good. We will for sure be back! There is a parking ramp behind the hotel for easy access and an elevator. Parking: Parking ramp behind and connection to the hotel and restaurant Wheelchair accessibility: Elevator from ramp with easy access to the hotel and restaurant
Great food; ordered the steak and fries seared to perfection, Cajun shrimp salad and Brussel sprouts appetizer with plenty to share. Drinks were delicious and unique: ordered Lake Pepin mule and Cedar Lake margarita. Staff were courteous and demonstrated excellent customer service.
Superb dining experience. Server was polite and informative. Drinks were delish and on-point. Appetizer and food ordered were delicious and well prepared. Great menu selection with peaceful ambiance, outdoor seating and views of the Mississippi River!
Stopped here for dinner while going through red wing and had a great evening. Bree was our server and was very kind and explained the menu well, and we enjoyed all her recommendations. Our table also was able to talk with cory, a chef at the restaurant which was great to learn more about the place. Everything from the appetizer to desert was amazing, and the environment/service was special. looking forward to coming back.
The flavors are incredible! I had Scarlet delivered to my room in the St. James. The food runner was efficient, helpful and kind. I was brought an entire carafe of Sprite when I ordered 2 glasses, which I felt was extremely sweet and generous. I did not have the full table service experience to judge that, however. My food was under a cloche, so it arrived hot. We ordered Swedish Meatballs and Black Garlic Lamb Pappardelle for dinner. The Swedish Meatballs are not like any I had ever had before. And I have had many! These tasted like a more robust meatball with a stronger, tangier sauce. The sauce was just barely covering the meatballs and mostly covering the fingerling potatoes. It was a delicious, balanced taste. A new way to deliver an overall familiar familiar plate but with new highlights. The lamb was amazing! It was falling apart on its own. The noodles were great. The over all flavor of the dish was green, unless you had a big piece of lamb, though. The dill and Thai basil just leave that fresh taste in your mouth. Such a hardy dish that sits so lightly on your stomach because it is so fresh. A work of magic all its own! We had a bed and breakfast room so we had another delicious delivery before check out: Biscuits and Gravy and Chocolate Nog French Toast. Such different flavors that were teased out and then balanced! The French Toast look like French Toast striped with chocolate but it wasn't. It was covered with the egg mix and then cornflakes. Then the chocolate sugariness was calmed by cinnamon. It was the only thing I needed to eat until dinner! The Biscuits and Gravy I can only give a third hand account of. From what I was told, they were spicy but mixed with cheesy, eggy goodness. The spice was calmed. The dish arrived with a baby bottle of Tabasco and you could see why, though it wasn't necessarily needed. I hope to be back to try out more dishes!
Airy yet cozy setting appropriate for everything from a date to a casual family breakfast to a wedding. We sat with a view of the train depot and Barn Bluff and were served by Lynn, who made our breakfast the highlight of our trip so far. Fantastic coffee! The Minnesota Bowl wild rice, jalapeño bacon, quinoa, mushrooms, scallions, grape tomatoes, eggs, blueberry Sturdiwheat pancakes, and blueberry lavender cake are all highly recommended!
We were visiting Red Wing for the day and stopped by for lunch. The St. James hotel was absolutely beautiful and we loved the shops along the way to the restaurant. We decided to sit outside and both inside and outside was beautiful and the ambiance was great. Our waitress was very sweet and helpful. We had our 3 year old with us and she was great with her. I loved that the menu was small so it wasn’t overwhelming but at the same time had a wide variety of things to choose from and there was something to please everyone. The food was delicious and we were pleasantly surprised that the kids Mac and cheese was unique and not from a box like most places. I had the Mediterranean bowl and it was delicious and just the right amount of food. Filling & satisfying. Definitely my favorite place in red wing now!
