Story

Moose’s Cookhouse.....

Welcome to Moose’s Cookhouse...a.k.a “The Moose” or if you really want to get technical Moose’s Loose Change Lodge!

Like all good things, it all began with an idea.....In 1996, when the owner and still the current owner Chris White wanted to create a place that would reflect the beauty of Northern Ontario with a great outdoor adventure.

Since the beginning The Moose has been located in the Heart of Downtown North Bay. Just a stone’s throw from major landmarks, such as C.P. Rail yards, heritage museums, and of course our beautiful Lake Nipissing that is our secret link to history in Canada.

Downtown was the perfect spot to turn a brick building into a Log Cabin, a spot made for the first explorer Jacques Cartier to stop with his team to rest, and enjoy a cold pint of brew and our now FaMoose Chicken Wings and Smokehouse Ribs.

At The Moose we allow you to explore your senses while finishing your work day in our laid back atmosphere. Our friendly staff are sure to make you feel at home, and the aromas of true Canadian cooking will great you at the door. With 120 ways to serve a chicken wing we are sure you will return again and again.

Aside from the outdoors there was another thing Chris was interested in was sports. To this day we dedicate ourselves to the great Canadian Game of Hockey. Every Saturday night starting at 7pm we have all 10 TV’s and 2 Large projector screens showing a true Canadian pastime - Hockey Night in Canada. As the famous song begins on the surround sound, and the lights are turned down we are proud to enjoy such a sport with our families. After all, it is the Gateway to the Great White North.

But hockey isn’t all we show at The Moose. We have been successful with showing the career of other great Canadian athletes like George St.Pierre in the UFC. We show every Pay Per View event and are registered with Canadastar Boxing to bring these shows to you.

So whether it’s a frozen pond, an octagon, a diamond, a court or a field we are sure to be showing The Big Game.

Even if you're not a wing lover, our menu has something for everyone. From giant burgers with Canadian flare to “AAA” steaks, wraps to salads, fish, and soups. We could go on and on, but its best if you checkout our menu and find your own favourites. Although you can’t cook it over an open campfire, the warmth of our cozy booths will ensure you are there.

After a busy day, a long week, a great game or a fantastic show, head downtown to the Moose. We're ready to show you what a Northern Ontario atmosphere and Canadian hospitality are all about. We have a campsite ready for you!

Good food, main menu was not labelled with gluten free options but their wing menu was. Wings are gluten free with a separate fryer and a bunch of gf sauces. Ordered the surfer girl wings, a little bland. Server made sure kitchen was aware of celiac gluten allergy. The host possibly the owner knew more information than the server we had, they had to ask other workers to find out stuff.
Every trip back home to North Bay comes with one non-negotiable stop — Moose Cookhouse. We don’t get here nearly often enough, but landing in on Boxing Day felt like fate… because we had been missing their food badly — especially those wings nnLet me tell you, the wings are still absolute perfection. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor that makes you wonder why you ever eat wings anywhere else. One bite and it’s instant nostalgia — the kind of food that reminds you why this place is legendary since 1996.nnNow, I’ll be honest — there was a tiny heartbreak. The deep-fried dill pickles are gone and in my opinion, they were hands-down the best in town, and the Queen Bee wings — my husband’s all-time favorite — are no longer on the menu. That one stung a bit.nnBut even with those losses, Moose Cookhouse still delivers where it counts: bold flavors, comfort food done right, and that unmistakable “home” feeling you can’t fake. It’s the kind of place you leave already planning your next visit — and counting down the days until you’re back in North Bay again.nnIf you know, you know. And if you don’t — get there.
A few years ago we went to this restaurant with our full hockey team and this amazing waitress Diane served us like she had been doing this for 100 years. All 40 of us in and out in 1.5h with zero mistakes in the orders and the food was AMAZINGnnWe loved it so much that we booked this hockey tournament again this year just to be able to go eat there again. Luckely for us Diane once again is accomodating our big crew of 50 for super in a few weeks.nnThe atmosphere of the place very cottage like and warmth of the place combine with Diane's service made this a place of choice for a great super with family friends and hockey team. I recommend this place 1000%
Dianne was the best server I’ve ever had, we loved the service and she was very accommodating for our group of 10. Great drink suggestions and laughter through the night! Best experience food was great! Definitely recommend the wings, boneless gar par and Canadian moose are great flavour
The moose has and will always have the best wing selection in town!!!. Yes wings with over 100 choices of sauces. The food here including the nachos and ribs are all amazing choices with large portions and tasty ingredients this place will not let you down. The moose also offers a very fun night out when they host events like ytl or trivia night it is a spacious tavernesque restaurant with wooden everything lol. The service is quick and the meals come out in good fashion. The only critique I can truly make is the alcoholic beverages are expensive and lacking. There is a full service bar but not much of a selection of beer and the cocktails are overpriced and not so tasty....sorry moose I do love you!. If they could offer some micro brews, a better beer selection and mabey hire a pro mixologist to revamp the cocktails this paired with the fun and the food would make the restaurant deserving of five stars from anyone dining there all of the time.
