Story

Fairmont Royal York, formerly known as the Royal York Hotel, is a large and historic hotel in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Opened on June 11, 1929, the Royal York was designed by Ross and Macdonald (with Sproatt and Rolph) and built by the Canadian Pacific Railway across the street from Union Station. With 28 floors, the château-style building was the tallest building in Toronto at that time, and the tallest building in the British Empire until the construction of Toronto’s Canadian Bank of Commerce tower on King Street one year later.

The hotel has been the residence of choice for Queen Elizabeth II and other members of The Royal Family when in Toronto. The Queen usually has an entire floor reserved for her and her party, occupying the Royal Suite herself.

Today, the hotel hosts royalty of another kind as an official hotel for the annual Toronto International Film Festival.

If you are visiting Toronto I highly recommend this bar for some tapas or after dinner libations. The atmosphere is elegant but the dress is casual. Lots of friendly people wander through here as you are guaranteed to meet somebody with a good story. Service is excellent and polite.

Absolutely beautiful. Took my gf for afternoon tea, and she absolutely loved it. They even did a little something special for my gf's birthday like I requested. Price is reasonable for what you get, and service is great! The nice decorations around the hotel were nice bonus, make sure to bring your cameras!

Have been here several times for drinks and on this occasion for high tea. The service has always been exceptional. The high tea offers an amazing selection of pastries and teas. Highly recommended for a great Toronto weekend. Be advised it isn't cheap.

Located inside Royal York in downtown restaurant, this little, sleepy bar serves the most amazing French Onion soup in Toronto...hands down!

Food was good but the highlight was the service. Our server made us felt so welcome that a sandwich and soup for dinner seemed lavishly high end. So was the price though, haha.
