The Lake Grill

We went here for a birthday celebration a couple of weeks ago and the food is amazing! The staff and chef are friendly and interactive! If you are like us and have not found this hidden gem, you need to eat here immediately. We are always looking for places like this and they are rare. We will be back many times! Best food we have had in Durham!

The interior, like the menu, is dated. The food was nothing to write home about, the prices are on the high side for what you get. It felt like I was eating in a kitchen. There are much better dining options in Durham than The Lakeside Grill, at much more reasonable prices.

Really good food, and the ambience was great and service was very nice. We had the crab cakes as an appetizer, surf and turf, the pickerel with shrimp as the entree, and then the espresso creme brule and the toffee pudding as desert.a hidden gem you should try out.

Great dining experience in Whitby. Excellent service and fantastic food. Cozy casual atmosphere. Dishes are expensive but worth the price.

Went here to celebrate my wife’s birthday and absolutely loved it. The place gives a very homely feel with delightful food. They are following post covid protocols. We enjoyed a lovely hearty house salad and crab cakes for starters. The mains were seafood spaghettini and steak oscar. Both were paired with a nice glass of wine. Definitely recommend this place.

This is one of the best restaurants I have been to over many years. The food is incredibly delicious and while their specialty is seafood, their steaks are very good. I tried the "Mediterranean Seafood Spaghettini" and the flavour was over the top good and cooked perfectly. My wife tried the "Jose's Boat Atlantic Salmon" and the salmon was cooked perfectly with the best dill sauce we have ever tasted I tried it. The deserts were amazing as well with one of them being a poached pear with a berries sauce and berries ...amazing. The atmosphere is casual and joyful, and the staff are very friendly. The chef has a very good reputation competed in Chopped and he comes around to make sure everything is perfect ...nice touch!

Quaint little place in Whitby. Some staff are very kind and pleasant short Filipino woman was a gem while other staff made you feel as though they didn't want to serve us. The food was really good, hats off to the chef, food not pricey, pretty reasonable, drinks were also reasonable. Great reviews led us to the restaurant, but we weren't sure how welcoming of diversity some of the floor staff were based on the attitude shown toward us. Hopefully they were just having a bad day.

I don't usually write reviews. We were here a few days ago and found the food tasty and enjoyable, but there was room for improvement. We enjoyed the crab cakes, but unfortunately the calamari was not great. We didn't complain,we were just going to pay and move on, however the waitress came by and asked how we found the calamari?, note: she had an attitude the moment she came to introduce herself as our waitress. We answered "it was alright, we didn't really like it, we enjoyed the crab cakes, but not so much the Calamari. She looked confused at first, then looked toward the kitchen and said "she'll let them know in the kitchen" and then grabbed the plate and left. Someone else brought our mains out to us and she came by to offer pepper, never having mentioned anything about the calamari again. Had she not asked, we would have just moved on, however once you asked, one would think the restaurant would "fix" it, offer something else or comp that dish, because we literally ate a few bites and couldn't shake the oil taste so we left it. I've also read where the chef has gone out and greeted patrons and ensured they were satisfied. I'm sure time is a factor in that, but we definitely didn't feel our money or presence was appreciated or welcomed. Disappointed.

We stopped here on our drive between Toronto and Kingston. The waitress was delightful, the atmosphere was cozy and relaxed with a hint of elegance and the food was simply delicious. I’m very picky and don’t often feel as completely satisfied with the balance of vegetables and protein in restaurant meals, but this food hit all the highlights for me - flavorful, perfectly seasoned, portions that are generous but don’t leave you feeling over fed, amazing selection on the menu it was hard to choose and I know I’ll just have to go back for the other delights that were offered and they allowed me to skip the starch rice or potato in favor of more veggies. And the veggies were beautifully prepared, fresh and perfectly cooked. I can’t wait to go back!

Everything was good until the bill came. We were charged $1.50 for a cup of hot water in a mug. Also was charged 20% gratuity for large party of 12.
