I love a family owned diner and Gateway did not disappoint. Great homemade soup. Huge portion of turkey. Stuffing was a little wet for me. Next time I'd ask for it on the side instead of underneath the turkey. Super friendly waitress. Reasonable prices.Food: 5/5
The Gateway Diner is an Albany mainstay serving up good food with great service. I don't know many diners which cater to such a wide clientele. They offer many diner standards hash that they make in-house, to meatloaf, to incredible looking cakes and pies. This diner also has a liquor license allowing them to serve up adult beverages as well. Whatever you're looking for, it seems they've got you covered. I didn't have high expectations going in other than to possibly have to wait for a table given how full the parking lot was. However, the restaurant is much bigger than I thought and we were immediately seated. Our server quickly greeted us and made up for the lackluster welcome that our 'host' gave us. She was friendly, answered our questions and offered suggestions, and she was there to check on us a couple of times throughout our meal. She definitely gave us 5-star service. Our server said they just updated up their menu so it seems their online menu varies a bit from their current dishes. I believe I got the Gateway omelette which now comes with spinach, mushrooms, onions, hash, and cheese which was a delicious combination. The corn beef hash is made in-house and was tender and full of flavor. I added onions to my home fries and a side of rye toast. All was good. My husband had the poached eggs. He said the hollandaise sauce was great. The only short comings were that my omelette was a bit over done - crisp on the outside, the poached eggs were overcooked, and the well done home fries were more tough than crispy. Despite that, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Great value as there's plenty of food for the cost and great service from our server. We'll definitely be going back for more.
We had an over-all perfect experience here today! We were seated within 1 minute, Our server was fast and great about checking our coffee for a warm up! The food was amazing. The bread for the French toast must have been baked fresh there and sliced nice and thick! Our eggs were cooked exactly as ordered, the breakfast sausage is probably the best ive had with plenty of home fries. In and out within roughly 30 to 40 min! Thank you to all at Gateway Diner!
No wait, very clean and well laid out. Waitress & cashier were delightfully pleasant, patient, polite, pretty and professional. They honor Seniors and military- an added plus. Much better this year than previous visits over the last decade+. Not sure if new owner, policies or what, but I love it. Parking: Roomy.
The first thing I couldn't help but notice was this smell when I entered the building. I should have turned around then but we stayed. Had a little crowd but was very short staffed based on what the server said. The server was ok. Not good but not awful. Ordered liver and onions with a salad, mash potatoes and kale. The only decent thing was the kale and onions on the top of the liver. The liver was tough and flavorless. Ranch dressing tasted like tartar sauce, mash potatoes was instant. I eat instant potatoes but this was just not good. My mom had home fries no seasoning nothing potatoes still somewhat hard. She did take the food off my bill. THANK YOU. Would not recommend this place to anyone at all. If I could give it no stars I would. Don't waste your money here.
I ordered off Uber eats but i usually order from them and get the same thing, today it look like they tried to make their own corn beef hash and this is horrible and tried to feed me anything and my eggs aren’t what I asked for I’m very disappointed. They could of called and aid they was out of it instead of making this dog food
Not sure what young adults are thinking and how they pursue occupation as a server and tips from customers. Although, please, keep in mind if i have to walk to cash register, get own service DON'T EXPECT TIPS TOO. P.S. customer service is not for everyone as field of occupation, remember that at first..including young adult this afternoon, nasty girl representing CDTA Flex scheduler...
I came here with my family food was nasty everything was burnt. Wrong corned beef hash was given it was burnt. My son pancakes were nasty he wouldn't eat them either I would never eat here again my eggs had a piece of deli cheese melted on top and our waitress was barely around when I was leaving the manager wouldn't even take anything off the bill total waste of 50$ do not eat here
Had roast beef with aujeu and it was cold, I mean cold! Appetizer came at same time as meal. Soup portion was tiny. No rolls to go with meal of chicken parm or roast beef. Silverware provided was a salad fork and no knife for the roast beef. One of the cakes in display was so old the frosting had dried out and cracked. The seating had large cracks in upholstery too. Dietary restrictions: No gluten free rolls or bread, so couldn't order a sandwich
If I could give a 0 stars I would. Horrible owner, mean and all inadequate service is the customers fault. Menu PRICES and descriptions are wrong.....so plan accordingly. Even the online menus that say is updated in 2023, is NOT what you will get when ordering. The owner and staff love to argue and embarrass the customers. BEWARE!!!!
