I had an excellent dinner here! I started with the seafood chowder that actually had a chunk of salmon in it. It was very flavorful! For a main I had the seafood linguine, which was delicious! The shrimp in the dish were sweet which was a nice surprise. Everything seemed fresh! The only disappointment was the apple cake that I took to go. It had been overbaked and my slice had a dark brown edge that was inedible. I would definitely return just for the seafood dishes!
Awesome meal and fun environment, It’s nice to hear people laughing and enjoying their time out! Mum and I shared the crab cakes and a lobster roll- both amazing and so fresh! The side salad was delicious too! A bonus for me is that they carried lindemans which is an Aussie wine, I personally rarely come across that when I’m out for a meal!
Such a cool place! Loved the atmosphere. Was there for breakfast this morning, so delish! Had the coconut, blueberry pancakes, yum! Three thick pancakes, I could only eat one while there and took the rest home. My sis had the poutine breakfast. I tried it and it was spectacular! The staff were super nice! 10/10! I’ll definitely be going back!
Food was amazing, our waitress was very friendly but we were told it was her first week so we were very lenient. When we were leaving she mentioned how the scheduled changed from the previous year and how much later nights go this year, so that felt a bit off. After reading reviews I’m unsure if that was just something they tell people or if it’s true. Anyway, I’m reviewing just the food and the experience I had in the restaurant and I loved it. The lobster was great, the salad was beautiful and the location is 10/10
If it weren't for the hostess I am not sure that we would have been served. The service was incredibly slow. The halibut, the signature $36 plate was a small piece of halibut on top of what seemed to be pan fried selection of vegetables. The halibut was overcooked. The vegetables were tasteless and many overcooked to the point where the potatoes were burnt. I guess that was a taste. How small was the plate, if it weren't for good sized nachos that my wife shared with me, I would have left quite hungry and hangry. The nachos were a good size, but the $4 extra for two tablespoons of guacamole was unbelievable. I can't recommend it based on this poor experience, YMMV. Great view though if you're seated outside.
I'd like to thank the food gods for the Freight Shed. We were in Baddeck for the shoulder season when a bunch of places were closed, so we had 2 meals at the Shed - breakfast and dinner - and enjoyed both of them. For breakfast, we got: - Blueberry Coconut Pancakes: It's a Freight Shed signature dish, and that makes perfect sense. Three huge and fluffy pancakes which have hints of coconut in the batter and a super generous heaping of blueberries in it. Got it with side sausage, and this was a definite winner. - Salmon Eggs Benny: Would have liked more salmon yes I'm greedy but otherwise, solid poach on the egg, solid toast on the benny, solid home fries. For dinner we got: - Seafood Chowder: Another signature dish that, while good, wasn't outstanding. Good amount of seafood in it, though would have liked a thicker soup. - Mussels for Two: Really generous heaping. Mussels were fresh and cooked well not rubbery, broth was standard white wine and garlic. - Halibut: Special for the day, this was pricey for the small portion of halibut. That said, the panko crust on it was really flavourful. - Carrot Cake: I loved it moist, decadent, whole lotta cream, though my wife found it too sweet. Service is really friendly and efficient, with the people there from kitchen to servers having such a welcoming aura. It's also by the waterfront so you have a great view while you dine. So whatever the season may be, Freight Shed definitely delivers.
The place was very busy when we came here and to make it worse, it was very rainy so that half of the outdoor seating was unusable but I can’t blame the restaurant for that. My biggest concern was the lack of character in the dishes which weren’t very pretty, especially the smoked salmon bagel which tasted pretty average. However, the service was pretty good and wait times weren’t too bad.
came early fortunately as it gets quite busy. Sat and had a beer outside with a view of the lighthouse on Kidston island. Ordered the seared scallops. Just amazing! Followed with coconut cream cheese cake and Spanish coffee. Service was second to none. We will be back!
Wonderfully tasty and fluffy pancakes filled with blueberries and coconut. Yogurt was not too sour nor sweet with a right mix of granola and fresh fruit. Eggs, toast and sausage were made very well, also per expectations. Very nice brunch all around.
Visited The Freight Shed as dinner after a long day after reading rave reviews. Service was disappointing and food left me feeling ripped off. Ordered a cocktail and a flight of beers. Cocktail came 30 minutes later, flight was forgotten and was not received before a reminder. Market price for the lobster roll was $35, but all I got was a hotdog bun full of lettuce with minimal lobster morsels. "Glazed" salmon was dry and flavorless. Upsides, beautiful scenery. Only reason this got a second star. Unfortunately disappointing experience.
