The Colander Restaurant

I have tried to make marinara sauce like the Colander for three decades to no avail. The sauce is decadent, sweet, oily, simple and addicting. Some days I get cold sweats dreaming about it. The Colander is a no nonsense eating barn for carb hungry humans desiring the simple but charming etiquette of fast service for great food, for a reasonably fair price. Your Nonna will be jealous.

I only had one bad thing to say about the restaurant in which I wish not to disclose here and is the only reason I didn't give it the big 5. The food was great and gave you feel of home cooking, just like mama makes. I ordered the lasagna and meatballs which was priced right and came with a bowl of salad and a bun. The "dinning hall" looks like it hasn't been touched since it began and is pretty echoey. But besides the gym like pop-up restaurant look, it's all about the food in the end and the food was pretty damn good for the money.

Excellent spaghetti and meatballs! I've been coming here since I was a child. This time, we came through Trail just for The Colander. It is loud in the dining hall, as it is a big hall. Definitely not fancy, but family friendly. Huge portions for the price. It's exactly as I remember it and is perfect!

Best place to eat in BC. Always good, great meals. Only a few items on the menu, but done perfectly every time.

It's not the best Italian I've ever had but they give you a lot and have gluten free pasta.
