The Cobalt

About

Est. 1911. Home to the finest selection of local and international music, artists, queers & beers. We like to party.

Story

The Cobalt is a dark nostalgic, funky underground venue --think brick, dark wood beams, chandeliers, candles-- hosting a wide verity of events from live music and pinball tournaments to art showings and dance parties with drag kings and queens. Now sprinkle on the amazing staff and laissez-faire approach and you’ve got the Cobalt. We are located on the corner of Prior and Main Street in the old Cobalt Motor Hotel. Private parking lot in the back and a 5 min. walk from the Skytrain makes the Cobalt a perfect option for bookings, private parties or just hanging out.

Good beer selection and great service. Had a lot of fun at the event we attended.
Went there to see an indie band and no one would go with me because they heard it was sketchy; it's on this part of Main Street after all. It was great. Cozy venue, nothing sketchy about the crowd inside or outside. A good selection of beers. It's amazing this has been here for over 100 years. Keep it up Cobalt.
Amazing little venue with awesome staff. They have the best beer selection of any concert venue in Vancouver by far, I seek out shows here partially for that reason alone. I will miss The Cobalt when it closes for renovations this year :
I love the Cobalt. It's LGBTQ-friendly and the crowd is always really friendly and welcoming. Super easy walk from the Skytrain, drinks are reasonably-priced, and there are two bars to help keep the lines down. It's a bit of a dive-bar, bathrooms are super gross, place isn't that clean, but it's a dive-bar in the best possible way.
For anyone looking to see shows or whatever, if something catches your eye, by all means go if you're so inclined. But know that this is not considered a good place to be for the crowd that frequents this place. So if you go, don't EVER leave your drink unattended for the smallest bit of time. My friend was here last night and had a REALLY bad night despite only having a couple drinks. He remembers nothing and luckily came home with only a bruise and a couple bleeding scrapes. But the rest of his night at home was not good and he clearly wasn't a are of what was going on even at the time, let alone when he was pulled together. So be careful here. And if anyone has information about people lacing thing s Monday night, Feb 22, I would appreciate it.
Great sized venue for seeing live music. 2 pillars in the middle of the dance floor are pretty annoying and obstruct view when the venue is busy.
Good venue for a few local acts or house djs. Nice, social crowd. Boxcar next door is also fantastic for some local pints.
Awesome queer bar that is away from the noise of downtown. The staff are super nice and the bar takes credit cards. Thank you Cobalt for hosting Man Up!!
Great venue. Lets you get up close to the stage. Good beer selection. Edit: Sadly it has since been shut down. Goodbye Cobalt
