The Clarendon
"Offering seasonal, locally sourced and handmade ingredients. Beautifully designed to embrace our heritage roots. Chef Dave Godsoe was inspired by the vibrancy and character of the market when creating this ever-evolving menu, showcasing the restaurant's relationships with local farms and purveyors. The Clarendon menu offers tavern classics with craft beers, vintage and reinvented cocktails and happy hour specials. Located in the Byward Market just steps from The Rideau Centre, NAC, Parliament Hill, and The National Gallery. Soon to be one of Ottawa's favourite watering holes."

First time for brunch. We sat on the patio on a beautiful Saturday morning. The sun was out, nice summer breeze and the birds were signing. Great outdoor atmosphere. The maple Buffalo chicken and waffles were well presented and most importantly, delicious. The orange pineapple mimosas were a the perfect side. Let’s not forget the friendly yet efficient service. Great way to start the weekend.
Went for lunch with work colleagues. Everyone loved their food. Pictured is my meal, salad, and French onion soup. The dressing on the salad was divine. The broth of the soup had an awesome flavour that included some smokiness … super yum!
The beef brisket sandwich, the Scotch egg, the beef tartare were amazing. Atmosphere is great and service is most excellent. Cocktail was good too! But those French fries though.... were out of this world Food: 5/5
We sat in the beautiful courtyard on a warm summer's evening. It was the best place we found during our trip because no street people pestered us. It was pure class to be sitting there. See pics. We went during happy hour on a Wednesday; the happy hour menu is superb and very competitively priced. The duck flatbread was superb see pic. As was the fried cauliflower. If the weather is good you must try this place, and make sure you choose the right area of the courtyard because there are 4 restaurants sharing the space. Our server Ihab was fantastic. This will be our lasting memory of the trip to Ottawa compared to the filth and beggars that seem to be prevalent in the ByWard Market area.
We went here for Sunday dinner, and because the winter weather was not great it was quiet. We enjoyed two of the most delicious pork loin dinners we've ever had after sharing a deconstructed cob salad. The service was pleasant but not at all pushy. We had drinks plus wine with dinner.Food: 5/5
Fantastic location. Came for Brunch. Menu is limited but nice selections and very well prepared . Great service friendly and attentive. Beautiful bar area. Smoked bacon Caesar ++Food: 4/5
A great place in Ottawa that we always try to make it to. Food is always tasty, rich and flavourful, scotch egg is a favourite that is always ordered, and the cocktails are exceptionally well made. The staff are courteous, entertaining and always helpful. The ambience is cozy and warm. Overall a great spot in a fantastic location. Great for a meal or to pop in for a drink and snacks.
Went for brunch on Sunday Oct 16 at 1pm. My friend ordered eggs benedict. The eggs were hard boiled, the hollandaise sauce was hardened onto the eggs and the English muffins were so tough she could barely cut through them. I ordered the chicken and waffles. Their waffle maker was not functioning so I asked for pancakes instead of the waffles with the chicken as I figured the batter would be the same. The waitress brings out a plate of sweet pancakes with whip cream and berries with a piece of hot sauce covered fried chicken on top.... I clearly stated i just wanted pancakes with the chickens and waffles dish, not a stack of sweet pancakes with hot sauce covered chicken. It took them the entirety of my friend eating her meal for them to bring out my actual meal, which is incredibly rude. Not sure how you mess something like that up. The waitress did bring us a mimosa for free and some of my meal was comped but the entire meal should have been free. What a disaster of a restaurant. Horrible experience, do not waste your time here. There are far better places in the Byward market that deserve your time and money.
I learned about the Clarendon Tavern from Google Maps, and the decision about my visit depended on the rating. From the outside, the tavern looks unassuming. And a completely different feeling arises when you get into the courtyard. There is an absolutely European atmosphere here. In the courtyard of brick building under the trees shade on the cobblestone pavement there are many tables. On the my visit day Sunday, noon it wasn't crowded. As for the food, it seemed to me quite tasty. 3 Egg omlette, homefries and buttered sourdough were delicious and fresh. The cappuccino was also great! But, my dear Canadians, to be completely honest, I'm not a big fan of such carbohydrate breakfasts, consisting of hash browns, toasts, jam and ketchup and the like. All this is very likely to lead to obesity. And this is not a claim to the tavern all the dishes were cooked very well, it's rather a claim to the entire North American culinary tradition. I would suggest introducing a healthier alternative. If we talk about the service, it was timely, polite and courteous. I was satisfied!!! The Clarendon Tavern is the only place in Ottawa I've been, but my experienced Local Guide eye indicates that this place claims to be the best in the city!!!
Fantastic service and the food was simply amazing!! Come during happy hour and you get $3 Jameson and the pizza is $10!!! I got the smoked duck pizza and it was fantastic!!
