Definitely a great spot for brunch. Shared a Full Monty out of beans , seafood chowder, and a Guinness. Will be returning! Staff was great too.. and cozy atmosphere.
Cod and chips were fantastic, I grew up in the UK and have tried them. I am up here on a trip from Los Angeles. It still better than the fish and chip English style places in Los Angeles.
Closest bar to my home. Never had a bad meal. Specials on the chalkboard never disappoint, beef dip is excellent and a regular buy. FULL 20oz PINTS for price of other, lesser bars, 16oz pints. Patio is covered, cool, dog friendly! Air conditioned inside for those horrid heat wave days. Local legendary spot, swing through!
Not impressed with the food. I requested the gluten-free bun to be toasted and the salmon reads wild. I do know the difference of what wild salmon looks like and this wasn’t. I shared the salmon, burger and fries with a friend and we shared a goat cheese, beets and fresh green salad . I don’t know what it was but the both of us feel nauseous this morning. Good reason to question how fresh the food was if we both feel .
I have had their pies twice and both times were delicious! The fries could be slightly more seasoned and crispy, but still good. Very cute inside.
Being from the neighbourhood, I’ve been to the Cheese Inn quite a few times trying to support what’s happening in Dunbar, but I’ve left each time with disappointment about the food. Based on other reviews, maybe it’s better for brunch or if you can find the couple things they’re really known for, but I’ve generally found the food too greasy and lukewarm for the price. Usually I love the atmosphere of a UK pub, but the Cheese Inn leaves me feeling like I’ve intruded on a secret club that I don’t know the password to.
Fisherman's pie was by far the best plate at the table, I highly recommend. It was nice that they had Kilkenny on tap also! I saw online there was mention of beef stroganoff but I didn't see it on the menu, just a heads up.
Pretty close to 'cozy British pub' atmosphere, definitely great British comfort food though. Liver and onion is great, just like my Mum used to make!Food: 5/5
As soon as you enter the place you feel like being in England. The old country pub atmosphere is warmly welcoming so was it waiter. Food was really good and well prepared a special note for the desserts even though I'm not really a sweet tooth the 3 my family had were amazing, particularly the lava cake.
Ordered the chicken pot pie & cottage pie for take out to be heated later. No pie crust included with the chicken pot pie apparently because I mentioned I would be heating everything later. However no one told me this at the time of ordering and was only discovered when i got home. So chicken pot pie with no pie crust for $20! Both pies were so over salted they were inedible and placed in the kitchen scraps bin rather than increase everyone's blood pressure. Sooooo disappointing, $40 later and still need to find something for dinner. I won't be back.
